Joel Ekwegh
@joelekwegh
Backend-focused software engineer building secure payment, housing, and transport systems.
What I'm looking for
I’m a software engineer trained in Information Technology, and I focus on building reliable backend systems that connect real-world users to the right workflows. Through my projects, I’ve learned to prioritize security, integration quality, and maintainable APIs.
In Paybridge, I built a payment orchestration system that lets merchants integrate once and connect to multiple providers. I implemented secure authentication, merchant onboarding, API key lifecycle management, idempotent payment processing, and webhook verification with replay protection. I also developed and validated core backend flows using Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Redis, and integration tests.
I continue to apply the same backend discipline in Carebnb, Keks, and API-focused work like the “Virtual Book Store API.” I use Spring Boot with PostgreSQL, Spring Security, OAuth 2.0 Resource Server for JWT decoding, Hibernate, and Thymeleaf—then troubleshoot integration issues (like image upload failures) to improve reliability and end-to-end results.

Paybridge Payment Orchestration
Paybridge
Mar 2026 - Present (1 month)
Built Paybridge, a payment orchestration system that lets merchants connect to multiple providers through a single integration. Implemented secure authentication, merchant onboarding, API key lifecycle management, idempotent payment processing, and webhook verification with replay protection using Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, and Redis, with integration tests.
Carebnb Shared Refugee Housing
Carebnb
Mar 2025 - Present (1 year 1 month)
Implemented Carebnb, a shared refugee housing system connecting refugees with civilians willing to help. Built the backend with PostgreSQL, Spring Security OAuth 2.0 Resource Server for JWT decoding, Hibernate, OpenSSL-generated RSA keys, and Maven, and used Thymeleaf for frontend-backend communication while addressing integration issues (e.g., image upload failures) to improve reliability.
