Role Overview
We are looking for a Junior Wildlife Forensic Geneticist to join our innovative team dedicated to advancing wildlife conservation through cutting-edge genetic analysis. In this role, you will support investigations by providing critical genetic insights that help protect endangered species and combat wildlife crime.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection, extraction, and analysis of DNA samples from various wildlife species.
- Conduct genetic testing using advanced molecular techniques and tools to identify species and individual animals.
- Support the development and optimization of protocols and methodologies for wildlife forensic genetics.
- Collaborate with senior geneticists and law enforcement agencies to provide scientific evidence in wildlife crime investigations.
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, ensuring compliance with safety and ethical standards.
- Contribute to research projects and prepare reports for publication in scientific journals.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Ecology, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of DNA extraction and amplification techniques (e.g., PCR).
- Familiarity with molecular biology laboratory practices and safety protocols.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with wildlife biology or conservation efforts.
- Hands-on laboratory experience, particularly in forensic genetics.
- Knowledge of bioinformatics tools and software for genetic data analysis.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including gel electrophoresis and PCR.
- Familiarity with genetic sequencing technologies and data analysis software.
- Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) is a plus.
