Role Overview
We are searching for a dedicated Wild Oyster Harvesting Supervisor to lead our sustainable oyster harvesting operations. This role is vital in ensuring the adherence to best harvesting practices while promoting ecological balance and supporting the local marine ecosystem. You'll be at the forefront of our mission to responsibly manage oyster populations and contribute to environmental conservation efforts.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of wild oyster harvesting operations, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and company policies
- Lead a team of harvesters, providing training and guidance on sustainable harvesting techniques
- Monitor and assess oyster populations, collaborating with marine biologists to implement effective management strategies
- Conduct regular site inspections and inventory assessments of harvesting areas
- Maintain accurate records of harvest activities, reporting findings and recommendations to management
- Ensure safety protocols are followed and foster a culture of safety among team members
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in marine harvesting or aquaculture management
- Strong knowledge of oyster biology and ecology, along with sustainable harvesting practices
- Proficient in data collection and reporting, with strong analytical skills
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities
Preferred:
- Experience with marine conservation initiatives or partnerships with environmental organizations
- Certification in first aid and CPR
- Familiarity with local marine regulations and compliance standards
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in using marine research tools and technologies for data collection and analysis
- Experience with GIS mapping software to assess harvesting areas
- Ability to operate and maintain harvesting equipment and boats
