Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Property Accounting to lead our accounting operations within the real estate sector. This pivotal role will oversee the accounting functions for a diverse portfolio of properties, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, accurate reporting, and the implementation of best practices across our accounting teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the property accounting team, developing talent and fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
- Oversee all aspects of property accounting, ensuring timely and accurate month-end close processes and financial reporting.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights, budgeting, and forecasting to support strategic decision-making.
- Evaluate and improve accounting processes, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Act as a primary point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors, ensuring successful audits and adherence to tax regulations.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within property accounting or real estate finance.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and property accounting principles.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
Preferred:
- Experience with real estate investment trusts (REITs) or property management firms.
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems, such as Yardi or MRI.
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in financial modeling, variance analysis, and performance metrics.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
- Familiarity with real estate financial management software.
