Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Oceanographic Meteorologist to lead our interdisciplinary team dedicated to advancing the understanding of ocean-atmosphere interactions and their impact on climate variability. In this role, you will leverage your expertise to develop innovative models and methodologies that inform critical research and operational applications.
Responsibilities
- Architect and execute advanced oceanographic and meteorological models to analyze and predict ocean-atmosphere dynamics and their implications for climate science
- Lead research initiatives, collaborating with academic and industry partners to enhance the integration of meteorological data into oceanographic studies
- Mentor and guide junior scientists and meteorologists, fostering a culture of scientific inquiry and methodological rigor
- Publish and present findings in peer-reviewed journals and at conferences, contributing to the advancement of the field
- Provide strategic insights to inform policy decisions regarding climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- PhD in Oceanography, Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field
- 10+ years of relevant experience in oceanographic and meteorological research
- Proven track record of leading complex research projects with significant impact
- Expertise in statistical analysis and modeling techniques, including proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB
- Strong publication record in high-impact scientific journals
Preferred:
- Experience with satellite remote sensing and data assimilation techniques
- Knowledge of climate modeling frameworks and tools (e.g., CMIP, ROMS, WRF)
- Familiarity with interdisciplinary collaboration in marine science and environmental policy
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Specialized knowledge in oceanographic data collection and analysis methodologies
- Proficiency in data visualization tools and geographic information systems (GIS)
- Experience with high-performance computing environments and parallel processing techniques
