Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and creative Music Copyist to join our team in delivering high-quality music notation and copy services. In this role, you will play a crucial part in transforming composers' manuscripts into polished, professional scores that accurately reflect their artistic vision. You will work closely with composers, arrangers, and conductors, ensuring that all music is prepared to the highest standards for performance and publication.
Responsibilities
- Transcribe handwritten scores into digital formats using notation software such as Sibelius or Finale
- Ensure accuracy in music notation, including dynamics, articulations, and formatting
- Proofread and edit scores to eliminate errors and enhance readability
- Collaborate with composers and arrangers to meet their specific requirements and deadlines
- Prepare parts for musicians and ensure they are clear and consistent
- Maintain organized files and documentation of all scores and revisions
- Stay updated on industry standards and best practices in music notation and copying
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Proven experience as a Music Copyist or similar role in music publishing or production
- Strong proficiency in music notation software (Sibelius, Finale, or equivalent)
- Excellent understanding of music theory and notation conventions
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
Preferred:
- Experience working with various genres of music, including orchestral, choral, and contemporary styles
- Familiarity with formatting for digital and print publication
- Knowledge of music copyright issues and licensing
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Advanced skills in music notation software (Sibelius, Finale, etc.)
- Proficiency in music editing and audio software (e.g., Logic Pro, Pro Tools) is a plus
- Ability to read and interpret complex musical scores
