Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Underwriting to lead our underwriting team in optimizing risk assessment and pricing strategies. In this critical role, you will leverage data analytics and industry insights to drive innovative underwriting practices while ensuring operational excellence and compliance with regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement underwriting strategies that align with the company's growth objectives and risk appetite.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing underwriting team to foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the evaluation of risk factors, underwriting guidelines, and pricing models to enhance profitability and market competitiveness.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including actuarial, claims, and product development, to ensure alignment on risk management and business goals.
- Utilize advanced data analytics and predictive modeling techniques to inform underwriting decisions and improve overall efficiency.
- Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to adapt underwriting practices and maintain compliance.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including brokers, agents, and clients, to enhance business opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in underwriting, with a proven track record of leadership and successful outcomes in a similar role.
- Deep understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment methodologies, and pricing strategies across various insurance lines.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, or similar.
- Experience with underwriting software and data analytics tools.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies in underwriting, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence.
