Role Overview
We are seeking an innovative and dynamic Department Head for History to lead our academic team and drive the strategic vision for our history curriculum. In this fully remote role, you will collaborate with faculty and administrative staff to enhance educational delivery, foster a culture of academic excellence, and promote interdisciplinary research initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive history curriculum that aligns with institutional goals and student needs.
- Foster a collaborative environment among faculty to encourage innovative teaching practices and research initiatives.
- Oversee departmental budget and resource allocation, ensuring efficient use of funds to support academic programs.
- Conduct regular assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional methods and student outcomes.
- Engage with students, faculty, and staff to create inclusive academic policies that support diversity and equity.
- Represent the history department in institutional meetings and collaborate with external stakeholders to enhance program visibility and partnerships.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- PhD in History or a closely related field with a strong record of scholarship.
- 5+ years of experience in higher education, including experience in academic leadership roles.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in an academic setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
Preferred:
- Experience in online education and remote teaching methodologies.
- Track record of successful grant writing and securing funding for research projects.
- Familiarity with interdisciplinary approaches to historical inquiry and education.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in learning management systems (LMS) and educational technology tools.
- Experience with data analysis for program assessment and improvement.
- Familiarity with digital humanities and innovative teaching methods.
