Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Head of Environmental Law to lead our legal team and ensure compliance with environmental regulations while driving sustainable practices across our organization. You will play a critical role in shaping our environmental policies, advising on legal risks, and advocating for innovative solutions that align with both regulatory frameworks and our corporate mission.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive environmental legal strategies in compliance with local, national, and international regulations
- Advise senior management and stakeholders on environmental risks, regulatory changes, and compliance requirements
- Lead negotiations and interactions with regulatory agencies, ensuring proactive engagement and advocacy
- Conduct thorough reviews of contracts and agreements to identify environmental liabilities and compliance issues
- Oversee the development and implementation of training programs on environmental law and compliance for staff and stakeholders
- Stay abreast of emerging environmental legislation and trends, providing insights to shape organizational strategies
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- 10+ years of experience in environmental law, with a strong track record of advising organizations on compliance and regulatory matters
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, policies, and best practices
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex legal issues and leading negotiations
Preferred:
- Experience in a leadership role within a corporate legal department or a law firm specializing in environmental law
- Advanced degree or certifications related to environmental policy or sustainability
- Strong network within regulatory agencies and environmental advocacy groups
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in legal research tools and databases
- Experience with environmental compliance software and reporting systems
- Familiarity with sustainability metrics and environmental impact assessments

- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex legal frameworks
