Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Campus Police Chief to lead our university's police department. This role is critical in developing and implementing safety and security policies, fostering community engagement, and ensuring compliance with legal standards while promoting a safe and inclusive environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive campus safety strategies that align with the university's mission and goals.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with local law enforcement, community organizations, and campus stakeholders.
- Oversee departmental operations, including personnel management, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Implement training programs for police personnel to enhance community policing practices and ensure high standards of service.
- Monitor and evaluate crime trends and develop proactive measures to mitigate risks and enhance campus safety.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson for the campus police department, addressing media inquiries and community concerns.
- Lead emergency preparedness initiatives, including drills and training for staff and students.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in law enforcement, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of campus safety, community policing, and legal compliance issues affecting educational institutions.
- Proven ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders and effectively communicate with various audiences.
- Strong decision-making skills and the ability to respond effectively to crises.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience working in a higher education environment or with university police departments.
- Certification from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) or equivalent.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in law enforcement technologies, including records management systems and crime mapping software.
- Knowledge of data analysis techniques to assess and report on campus safety metrics.
- Experience with emergency management systems and crisis communication tools.
