Role Overview
[$COMPANY_NAME] is seeking a seasoned Chief Anchor to serve as the editorial and on-air leader for our flagship broadcast and digital news operations. This executive-level position requires an accomplished journalist with deep domain expertise in live broadcasting, newsroom strategy, and multi-platform audience growth. You will define editorial standards, lead high-stakes live programs, and shape the public face and voice of our news organization while collaborating closely with product, engineering, and audience development teams to drive measurable engagement across TV, streaming, and digital properties.
Responsibilities
- Set and enforce editorial direction and broadcast standards across live news programming, breaking news, and long-form interviews; author and maintain key editorial policies and playbooks
- Host flagship live programs, moderating high-profile interviews and panels with precision under tight time constraints and evolving narratives
- Lead newsroom strategy: establish content calendars, coordinate editorial priorities across TV, streaming, web, and social, and align coverage to audience and revenue objectives
- Collaborate with product, data, and engineering to instrument shows for real-time analytics (audience retention, drop-off, CTR) and iterate formats based on A/B and cohort testing
- Own escalation decisions during breaking news: coordinate producers, field reporters, studio operations, and technical teams to ensure resilient live coverage including satellite, IP, and cloud-based streaming workflows
- Drive talent development: recruit, mentor, and evaluate anchors, correspondents, producers, and assignment editors; run regular editorial reviews and on-air coaching sessions
- Represent [$COMPANY_NAME] publicly: participate in press briefings, industry panels, town halls, and stakeholder meetings; maintain high professional standards in public-facing communications
- Manage risk and compliance: ensure adherence to regulations, libel and defamation policies, source verification protocols, and company guidelines for sensitive reporting
- Define KPIs for editorial impact and audience growth; report to executive leadership with quantitative and qualitative assessments and a clear roadmap for scaling reach and credibility
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 15+ years of journalism/broadcast experience with a minimum of 8 years in senior on-air or editorial leadership roles
- Proven track record hosting national or international live news programs with complex multi-segment formats and high viewership
- Exceptional editorial judgment demonstrated by leading coverage of major breaking news events and investigative reporting under ethical and legal constraints
- Experience integrating live broadcast workflows with digital distribution and OTT platforms, including familiarity with streaming protocols and CDN concepts
- Strong crisis management skills with documented experience coordinating cross-functional teams during live incidents
- Excellent executive communication skills, public presence, and media relations experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or equivalent professional track record; advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred
Preferred:
- Experience with audience analytics tools (Chartbeat, Conviva, Nielsen, Comscore), and the ability to translate metrics into editorial strategy
- Familiarity with newsroom production systems (ENPS, iNEWS), studio automation, live switching, and remote contribution technologies
- Prior experience scaling a news brand digitally, growing social audiences, and optimizing video content for platforms like YouTube, Facebook, X, and native mobile apps
- Background in multicultural or international reporting and demonstrated commitment to inclusive coverage
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Deep understanding of live broadcast and streaming technology stack: broadcast mixers, SMPTE standards, NDI, SRT/RTMP, and cloud-based encoders
- Familiarity with content management and rundown systems (ENPS, iNEWS) and newsroom automation workflows
- Experience using audience measurement and analytics platforms (Nielsen, Chartbeat, Conviva, Google Analytics) to inform editorial decisions
- Comfort working with remote production toolchains and collaboration platforms (Zoom, Wirecast, Studio-to-Cloud workflows)
- Knowledge of legal and compliance tools and processes for fact-checking, e-discovery, and source validation
