Role Overview
[$COMPANY_NAME] is seeking an experienced, editorially rigorous Chief Anchor to lead broadcast presentation, editorial strategy, and on-air talent development for flagship news programming. As Chief Anchor, you will set the editorial tone, own live broadcast execution standards, and drive audience growth across linear and digital platforms. You will combine expert live anchoring skills with newsroom leadership, editorial strategy, and operational oversight of production workflows, broadcast systems, and cross-platform content distribution.
Responsibilities
- Editorial Leadership: Define and enforce editorial standards and ethics across daily newscasts and special coverage; create and maintain an editorial playbook that aligns with journalistic standards, legal/compliance requirements, and brand voice.
- On-Air Leadership & Presentation: Serve as primary on-air anchor for marquee time slots and breaking news; deliver clear, concise, and authoritative live coverage using prompter systems and live-satellite/telestream workflows.
- Strategic Programming & Audience Growth: Collaborate with programming, analytics, and digital teams to set content strategy, optimize story selection, and increase ratings, engagement, and retention across TV, streaming, and social channels.
- Production Oversight: Partner with Executive Producers, Directors, Technical Operations, and Master Control to ensure flawless live broadcasts; approve rundown structures, segment timing, and technical redundancies (e.g., hot spares, IFB, redundant encoders).
- Breaking News & Crisis Execution: Lead newsroom response during breaking events—coordinate desk rotations, on-air inserts, remote feeds, satellite uplinks, and distributed reporting; make rapid editorial judgments under time pressure.
- Talent Development & Mentorship: Recruit, mentor, and evaluate anchors, correspondents, and contributors; run regular anchor trainings on live delivery, interview techniques, teleprompter proficiency, and on-camera presence.
- Cross-Platform Integration: Work with Digital, Social, and Product teams to repurpose broadcast content for OTT, on-demand clips, podcasts, and short-form platforms; define KPIs and iterate on formats that drive multi-platform viewership.
- Stakeholder Management: Advise C-suite on editorial risks, reputational issues, and strategic communications; represent the newsroom in executive planning, marketing, and business development forums.
- Metrics & Continuous Improvement: Use audience analytics, Nielsen/Comscore data, A/B testing results, and social listening to inform editorial decisions and iterate programming for measurable audience impact.
