University of the Cumberlands

University of the Cumberlands is a private, faith-based institution located in Williamsburg, Kentucky, with a history dating back to 1888. Founded by a group of Baptist ministers as the Williamsburg Institute, its primary mission was to provide quality, affordable education to the young people of the Appalachian region, grounded in Christian principles and a commitment to servant leadership. In 1913, the institution became Cumberland College, a name reflecting its location near the Cumberland River and Cumberland Falls. It officially transitioned to University of the Cumberlands in 2005 to represent its growth and the expansion of its academic offerings, which now include a wide array of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs.

The university is dedicated to what it calls 'A Life More Abundant,' a motto that underscores its holistic approach to education, focusing on intellectual, spiritual, and professional growth. It serves a diverse student body of over 20,000, including both on-campus and online learners from around the world. The institution is known for its 'Cumberlands Commitment,' an initiative designed to make higher education more accessible and affordable by reducing tuition costs and eliminating fees for books and academic resources.
