About Trout Unlimited
Trout Unlimited (TU) is a national non-profit organization founded in Michigan in 1959, dedicated to conserving, protecting, and restoring America’s coldwater fisheries and their watersheds. With over 300,000 members and supporters, TU is the most effective coldwater fisheries conservation organization in the country. Our mission is clear: to bring together diverse interests to care for and recover rivers and streams, ensuring that future generations can experience the joy of wild and native trout and salmon.
Our work spans nearly a million miles of cold water across America, from forested rivers like the Farmington in Connecticut to the pristine waters of Alaska’s Bristol Bay. Our conservation strategy begins with employing the best available science to protect vital spawning habitats and reconnect tributaries with their rivers. Additionally, we restore impacted waters, ensuring the resilience and sustainability of trout and salmon habitats. By engaging passionate anglers, generous donors, and a dedicated community of advocates, TU fosters a movement aimed at protecting and restoring the habitats that hold value for all who cherish fishing and the outdoors. Together, we strive to inspire a diverse and younger generation of conservationists to advocate for our precious resources.
