About Texas Access to Justice Foundation
The Texas Access to Justice Foundation (TAJF) is the principal funding source for legal aid in Texas, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to the vision of equal access to justice for all Texans, regardless of income. Founded by the Supreme Court of Texas in 1984, TAJF facilitates various funding mechanisms to support nonprofit organizations that offer free legal services to low-income individuals and families.
Every year, TAJF allocates millions of dollars in grants to approximately 40 legal aid organizations statewide. These organizations assist more than 100,000 low-income Texas families with essential civil legal matters ranging from domestic violence protection to housing stability and child custody issues. By funding civil legal assistance, TAJF plays a crucial role in safeguarding vulnerable populations and ensuring that they can navigate the legal system effectively. The foundation is dedicated to addressing the legal needs of Texans through partnerships, community outreach, and advocacy, emphasizing the importance of civil legal aid in achieving justice.
