About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior WordPress Developer to contribute to the development, optimization, and long-term stability of our WordPress ecosystem. This role requires deep technical expertise in WordPress architecture, backend development in PHP, and performance- focused implementation across front-end and infrastructure layers.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple time zones and play a key role in maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performing digital platforms.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Architect, build, and maintain highly customized WordPress applications
- Develop custom themes and plugins to support evolving business requirements
- Integrate third-party APIs, services, and plugins
- Ensure high availability, security, and performance of WordPress sites
- Optimize front-end and back-end performance
- Manage deployments and production stability
- Maintain WordPress core and plugin updates while preventing conflicts
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues across the stack
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards
- WordPress environments are stable, secure, and performant
- Custom functionality is built cleanly and sustainably
- Deployments are predictable and low-risk
- Cross-team collaboration is smooth and effective
- Technical debt is reduced over time
Experience and Qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional experience with PHP
- 4+ years of hands-on WordPress development experience
- Strong experience building and maintaining highly customized WordPress environments
- Experience developing custom WordPress themes and plugins
- Solid understanding of WordPress core, hooks, REST API, and best practices
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript
- Experience with Git-based workflows
- Experience working in Linux environments
- Experience deploying and managing WordPress in AWS environments (EC2, RDS, Elastic Beanstalk, etc.)
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Experience collaborating with distributed, international teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Jira or similar project management tools
- Experience with caching strategies and CDN implementations
- Experience with headless WordPress architectures
- Understanding of SEO best practices in WordPress
- Strong problem-solving mindset and ownership mentality
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude Code, or similar code-generation platforms) to improve development efficiency and code quality
