Our Engagement Specialists play a critical role in creating a positive, supportive first experience for patients entering our programs.
Position Overview
The Engagement Specialist I serves as the first point of contact for patients and caregivers engaging with Sylvan Health and plays a key role in enrolling patients into our nutrition support program. This role is responsible for educating patients about the program, scheduling telehealth appointments with our Registered Dietitians, and assisting with rescheduling and basic technical support needs. The ideal candidate is empathetic, highly organized, adaptable, and comfortable communicating across multiple channels including phone, SMS, email, and patient portals.
This is a fast-paced, patient-facing role that requires strong communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to navigate sensitive or complex situations with confidence and care.
This role is a full-time, 6-month contract-based position with the potential for extension based on business needs and performance.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as the initial point of contact for patients and caregivers
- Build rapport and establish trusting relationships with patients and families
- Make outbound calls to educate patients about Sylvan Health programs and assist with enrollment; schedule telehealth initial and follow-up visits with Registered Dietitians
- Support patients with questions related to scheduling, telehealth visits, and general insurance concepts
- Send follow-up communications through phone calls, SMS, email, and patient portal messaging
- Provide timely support for inbound patient communications, including appointment adjustments and visit transfers
- Deliver exceptional customer service and empathy during every patient interaction
- Collaborate closely with Registered Dietitians and other care team members
- Document patient interactions accurately within EMR and CRM systems
- Resolve patient and caregiver questions professionally and efficiently
- Navigate multiple systems and workflows simultaneously in a detail-oriented manner
Requirements
- Legally Authorized to work in the U.S.
- 2+ years of experience in a patient-facing or healthcare communication role; examples include: Care Coordination, Patient scheduling, Healthcare customer support
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of health literacy
- Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive, complex, or fast-moving situations in real time
- Working knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system, including:
- Provider visit types and care pathways
- Basic insurance concepts such as deductibles, coverage, and in-network vs. out-of-network care
- General patient navigation workflows
- Ability to communicate clearly and confidently across phone, SMS, and email
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable adapting to evolving workflows and operational processes
- Ability to work efficiently across multiple software systems simultaneously
- Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required
- Helpful but not required: Previous experience or working knowledge in nutrition or Medical Nutrition Therapy space
