About Us
Sunstrong Management is a fast-growing, technology-driven renewable asset management company dedicated to accelerating the renewable energy transition. We manage a diverse, rapidly expanding portfolio of renewable assets—including residential, commercial, and utility-scale solar, wind farms, and EV charging infrastructure. We are building our product leadership team to develop intelligent monitoring, control, and optimization capabilities, including but not limited to Virtual Power Plant (VPP) functionalities that integrate with multiple OEM equipment types.

The Role
We are seeking a Product Manager for Data Engineering and Fleet Telemetry to own the strategy, vision, and roadmap for our data lake and IoT telemetry infrastructure. You will act as the "bridge" between hardware operations and data science, ensuring high-frequency, reliable data flow from thousands of assets into actionable insights.
As a key member of the Product Leadership team, you will be responsible for defining requirements directing how we ingest, store, process, and act on data from heterogeneous IoT devices to optimize asset performance, predictive maintenance, and VPP participation.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Vision: Define the multi-year roadmap for our data ingestion platform, data lake, and telemetry systems to support scale-up from hundreds of thousands of devices to millions.
  • IoT & Telemetry Ownership: Own the end-to-end IoT telemetry strategy—instrumenting data collection from diverse solar inverters, and EV chargers across both residential and commercial projects.
  • Data Architecture Mapping: Collaborate with engineering to design scalable ETL/ELT pipelines (e.g., Kafka, Spark, Airflow) and data storage solutions (e.g., S3, Iceberg/Parquet) for high-frequency time-series data.
  • OEM Integration: Partner with Technical Operations to standardize data models across multiple original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
  • VPP & Control Capabilities: Develop the telemetry and control interface requirements for our Virtual Power Plant (VPP) program, ensuring reliable, low-latency communication for grid services.
  • Product Requirements (PRDs): Translate business requirements from asset managers and analysts into technical specifications for data engineers.
  • Data Reliability & Quality: Establish SLAs for data availability, latency, and accuracy across the fleet.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience: 5+ years of product management experience, with 3+ years specifically in data engineering, IoT platforms, or data-intensive B2B SaaS products.
  • Renewable/Energy Expertise: Demonstrated experience in the renewable energy sector (solar, wind, storage) or smart grid technologies (VPP, DERMS).
  • Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of IoT protocols (MQTT, Modbus, OPC-UA), cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure), and data processing technologies (Kafka, Spark).
  • Data Fluency: Proficiency in SQL and ability to analyze large datasets to make data-driven decisions.
  • Systems Thinking: Ability to map complex physical-to-digital workflows and simplify them through automation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with building real-time monitoring dashboards or predictive maintenance tools.
  • Background in energy market telemetry requirements (ISO/RTO).

SunStrong Management is an independent asset management and servicing company that bridges the gap between sustainably-minded capital partners committed to investing in a diverse energy mix and the real-world needs of infrastructure systems requiring servicing and customers needing support. They operate as a first-of-a-kind business model - a full-service asset manager unattached to an origination platform - managing assets that others have abandoned. The company is comprised of solar-industry veterans who stepped up to keep systems online, productive, and delivering on promises made to thousands of customers across the country.

Their mission centers on supporting customers through potentially stressful transitions while ensuring they continue benefiting from their investment in clean and affordable solar energy. SunStrong offers comprehensive services including field service Operations & Management (O&M), billing and collections, and investor engagement and reporting. They serve owners of distributed energy assets ranging from small residential rooftop systems to large utility-scale solar farms, while also supporting institutional bond holders and investors who need a stable, professional, and accountable counterparty.
