Squareshot

What started in 2016 as a struggle to build a marketplace for used luxury items has grown into Squareshot, a leading product photography service. Co-founders Alex Davidovich and Dmitry Kovalenko initially set out to create a platform for luxury goods but faced a unique 'chicken or the egg' problem: they lacked the inventory to attract buyers, and the buyers to attract inventory. However, they discovered that the high-quality images they produced for their limited stock were 'too good' to be believable for a second-hand marketplace.

Recognizing that their true strength lay in content production rather than marketplace dynamics, they decided to pivot. In 2017, they launched Squareshot with a mission to solve the content creation bottleneck for e-commerce brands. Starting with a single studio in New York City and a distributed team collaborating over Skype, they transformed remote work from a logistical challenge into a core asset. Today, Squareshot operates a network of studios across the United States, including locations in New York, Los Angeles, Austin, and Chicago, while maintaining a tech-driven, distributed workforce. They have streamlined the product photography process, helping over 2,500 brands—from emerging startups to household names like Corkcicle and Farmacy Beauty—create consistent, high-quality visual content that drives sales.
