Job Summary

The Electronics Commodity Manager is responsible for developing and executing global sourcing strategies for active electronic components, including semiconductors, ICs, power devices, and other supply‑constrained technologies. This role owns supplier strategy, cost management, risk mitigation, and long‑term demand assurance for critical technologies supporting new product introduction (NPI), sustaining engineering, and volume production.

The position partners closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Planning, and Finance to ensure continuity of supply, competitive total cost, and alignment with technology roadmaps in a volatile global electronics market.

Key Responsibilities

Commodity & Sourcing Strategy

  • Develop and execute global commodity strategies for active components (MCUs, ASICs, FPGAs, analog ICs, power semiconductors, memory, optoelectronics).
  • Align supplier strategies with technology roadmaps, product lifecycles, and long‑term business needs.
  • Lead make/buy, dual sourcing, and lifecycle management decisions to reduce supply risk.

Supplier Management & Negotiation

  • Establish and manage strategic relationships with IDMs, fabs, foundry partners, and authorized distributors.
  • Lead commercial negotiations including pricing, LTAs, NCNR terms, allocation commitments, and capacity reservations.
  • Drive supplier performance using KPIs covering cost, delivery, quality, responsiveness, and risk posture.

Cost & Value Management

  • Own year‑over‑year cost reduction and cost avoidance initiatives through pricing, VAVE, design influence, and demand consolidation.
  • Analyze cost drivers for active components (wafer pricing, node transitions, test/packaging, currency, tariffs).
  • Partner with Engineering to influence design choices that improve availability, cost, and long‑term sustainability.

Supply Assurance & Risk Management

  • Proactively manage allocation‑prone and long lead‑time components, including demand commits and escalation paths.
  • Develop mitigation plans for geopolitical, capacity, EOL, Obsolete and single‑source risks.
  • Support business continuity planning and recovery actions during supplier disruptions.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Engineering on NPI sourcing, qualification, and alternate part strategies.
  • Work with Planning and Operations to align forecasts, inventory strategies, and supply constraints.
  • Collaborate with Quality on supplier audits, corrective actions, and qualification requirements.

Data, Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure accurate item master data, approved manufacturer lists (AML), and sourcing documentation.
  • Support compliance with trade, export control, and ethical sourcing requirements.
  • Provide clear reporting on savings, risk exposure, and supplier performance to leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering (Electrical/Electronics), Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 7 years of sourcing or commodity management experience in electronics manufacturing.
  • Strong expertise in active electronic components and semiconductor supply chains.
  • Proven negotiation experience with global suppliers and distributors.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage supply constraints, allocations, and high‑risk commodities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with semiconductor manufacturers, foundries, or EMS providers.
  • Understanding of semiconductor lifecycle management, node transitions, and capacity models.
  • Experience supporting NPI and fast‑paced, mixed‑volume manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of global trade, tariffs, and regional sourcing strategies (Asia, North America, Mexico, etc.).

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strategic sourcing and category management
  • Advanced negotiation and contract management
  • Cost modeling and financial analysis
  • Risk assessment and mitigation planning
  • Cross‑functional leadership and executive communication
  • High level of analytical rigor and attention to detail

Success Metrics

  • Year‑over‑year cost savings and cost avoidance
  • Supplier OTD, quality, and responsiveness metrics
  • Reduction in supply risk (single‑source, allocation exposure, EOL events)
  • NPI sourcing readiness and on‑time product launches
  • Strength and depth of strategic supplier partnerships

Travel

  • Travel typically 10–25% (supplier visits, audits, factory alignment, quarterly business reviews).
  • Occasional calls across time zones with global suppliers.

On-site, hybrid, or remote options will be considered.

Our good faith estimate of the salary range for this role is $114,000 to $153,000. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and other factors. In addition to base pay, we offer a highly competitive benefits package.
