Electro-Mechanical Commodity Manager(High Voltage Background Preferred)

Department

Supply Chain / Strategic Sourcing / Procurement

Reports To

Director, Strategic Sourcing / Global Commodity Leader / Supply Chain Manager

Location

Flexible (site-based, hybrid, or remote). Travel required as needed for supplier visits, audits, and business reviews.

Position Summary

The Electro-Mechanical Commodity Manager is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies, supplier performance management, and cost/risk roadmaps for electro-mechanical commodities supporting production and new product introduction (NPI). Typical scope may include connectors, cable assemblies, wire harnesses, electromechanical assemblies, sensors, relays/contactors, switches, thermal components (fans, heatsinks), insulation materials, and selected power/electrical subassemblies (based on business needs).

This role partners closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Planning, and Finance to ensure supply continuity, competitive total cost, and robust quality. High-voltage product experience (e.g., insulation systems, creepage/clearance considerations, dielectric testing, HV interconnect, safety/regulatory constraints) is strongly preferred but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

Category Strategy & Sourcing Execution

  • Develop and execute commodity strategies aligned with business objectives for cost, quality, delivery, and risk.
  • Lead RFI/RFQ/RFP events, supplier selection, and sourcing recommendations using structured decision models.
  • Negotiate commercial terms including pricing, lead time, MOQ/MPQ, tooling, payment terms, NCNR exposure, warranties, and liability.
  • Establish and manage Long-Term Agreements (LTAs) and supplier pricing governance (indexing/escalators where appropriate).

Supplier Relationship & Performance Management

  • Own supplier scorecards and business reviews (OTD, quality/PPM, responsiveness, cost, and continuous improvement).
  • Partner with Quality and Engineering to drive corrective actions (8D/CAPA), audit closure, and process capability improvements.
  • Proactively manage supplier risk: capacity constraints, financial stability, single-source exposure, geopolitical/logistics risk, and BCP readiness.

Engineering Collaboration & Technical Alignment

  • Partner with Engineering to drive standardization, modularity, and approved alternates (AVL/AML), including documentation governance.
  • Support NPI by ensuring supplier readiness, DFM/DFT feedback, prototype-to-production transitions, and qualification timing.
  • Drive specification alignment and “design to supply” practices (availability, manufacturability, and lifecycle stability).

Cost, Value Engineering (VE), and TCO Improvement

  • Deliver year-over-year cost improvement through VA/VE, should-cost analysis, supplier consolidation, redesign suggestions, and process improvements.
  • Optimize total cost of ownership including logistics, packaging, yield, warranty, and change management costs.

Lifecycle & Change Control

  • Manage supplier-driven changes (PCN/ECO), obsolescence, and end-of-life transitions, including last-time-buys and redesign triggers.
  • Ensure controlled qualification of alternates and substitutions while protecting quality and compliance.

Planning/Execution Support (as needed by org design)

  • Work with Planning and Operations to align supplier capacity to demand, reduce shortages, and improve lead time reliability.
  • Support escalation management for critical shortages and line-down risks with structured recovery plans.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and relevant standards: RoHS/REACH, supplier code of conduct, and trade compliance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate sourcing documentation for audit readiness (contracts, supplier files, risk assessments, and savings tracking).

High Voltage Experience (Preferred) — Example Relevance

Candidates with HV background may bring value in areas such as:

  • Sourcing and qualifying HV connectors, HV cable assemblies, insulation systems, potting/encapsulation, dielectric materials, creepage/clearance constraints, and safety-related components.
  • Working with requirements tied to dielectric withstand, partial discharge considerations, insulation class, thermal aging, and reliability testing practices.
  • Supporting regulated environments and safety-driven design constraints where supplier process control is critical.

(Note: HV knowledge is a strong advantage but not required; the team can provide internal product-specific training.)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 7 years in strategic sourcing/commodity management, supplier development, or procurement within manufacturing (electronics, industrial, medical, energy, aerospace, etc.).
  • Proven track record in:
    • supplier negotiations and contract management
    • RFQ execution and cost modeling
    • supplier performance management, and cross-functional influence
  • Strong analytical and communication skills; able to present recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP tools (SAP/Oracle/etc.) and advanced Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience sourcing electro-mechanical assemblies such as harnesses, cable assemblies, connectors, relays/contactors, sensors, and electromechanical modules.
  • Experience with high voltage products or insulation-critical designs (preferred, not mandatory).
  • Familiarity with quality systems and supplier qualification methods (audits, control plans, PPAP-like evidence, FAI, reliability testing).
  • Lean/Six Sigma or project management experience (nice to have).

Core Competencies

  • Strategic thinking with strong execution discipline
  • Negotiation and stakeholder influence across Engineering/Quality/Operations
  • Supplier development mindset; comfortable with escalation and recovery planning
  • Data-driven decision making and structured problem solving
  • Strong communication in a global supplier environment

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Annual cost savings / PPV / TCO improvement
  • Supplier OTD, lead time adherence, and schedule stability
  • Supplier quality performance (PPM, escape rate, CAPA closure time)
  • Dual-source/alternate qualification progress and risk reduction
  • NPI readiness (supplier selection and qualification to schedule)
  • Contract coverage and compliance; reduced NCNR exposure
  • Inventory health improvement (where applicable): turns, excess/obsolete reduction

Working Conditions / Travel

  • Travel typically 10–30% depending on supplier footprint and site scope (supplier audits, QBRs, and new supplier onboarding

On-site, hybrid, or remote options will be considered.

Our good faith estimate of the salary range for this role is $114,,000 to $153,000. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and other factors. In addition to base pay, we offer a highly competitive benefits package.
