SFI is seeking a Fishery Scientist to support NOAA Fisheries Southeast Regional Office (SERO) in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Primary Responsibilities:
Research:
- Compile EFH information relevant to expedited major infrastructure projects and locations.
- Track expedited major infrastructure projects in project/consultation tracking databases including as much relevant information about these projects as possible such as schedules, deliverables, NOAA team personnel, incoming and outgoing correspondence and information (e.g., letters, consultations).
- Deliver updated information and links to final work products in project/consultation tracking databases, developed in collaboration with HCD, PRD, and SERO's NEPA Coordinator.
- Use GIS to make maps and manage spatial data for retrieval and analysis.
- Maintain current understanding of the habitats, environmental pressures, and current environmental partnerships within Southeast U.S. watersheds.
Coordination:
- Coordinate across NOAA programs through project teams; and share pertinent/relevant information received during project meetings/calls to NOAA project team members.
- Work with SERO's NEPA Coordinator, and with HCD and PRD staff, to request the appropriate data and information necessary to evaluate potential project impacts to species and habitats.
- Keep NOAA team members informed about projects schedules, especially any major milestones, concurrence points, and/or project deliverable deadlines.
- Supply action agencies with relevant information and guidance (e.g., best management practices and construction guidelines) to help avoid, minimize and/or offset those potential impacts, setting the stage for any future consultations that might be required.
- Develop and organize template responses based on project type for use in quickly transmitting this information and guidance to action agencies.
- Template responses will identify the stressors to fishery species and their habitats associated with various project components, as well as recommendations for avoiding, minimizing and offsetting project impacts.
- Deliver project correspondence (e.g., letters), notes, memos to the file, emails, and verbal communication among NOAA team members and, when appropriate, staff from other agencies.
- BS in Marine Biology, Marine Policy, Environmental Science related discipline or equivalent.
- Understanding of the ESA and Magnuson-Stevens Act consultation requirements and the administration of expedited projects placed on the President's Dashboard.
- Knowledge of estuarine species and their habitats with a preference for experience in the field of environmental conservation and setting conservation objectives.
- Strong professional writing and organizational skills.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Strong understanding of the habitats, environmental pressures, and current environmental partnerships within Southeast U.S. watersheds.
- Experience conducting site assessments of estuarine areas.
- Experience using GIS to make maps and to manage spatial data for retrieval and analysis.
- Experience in the field of estuarine fish conservation and setting conservation objectives.

Other Information
- The salary for this position is $45,000 - $70,000 annually.
