About the Role

We are looking for a Senior / Staff-level Full Stack Engineer with strong system design expertise and practical experience applying AI tooling in real-world development environments. This is a high-impact role focused on designing and evolving platform architecture, modernising legacy systems, and integrating AI-driven capabilities into both engineering and product workflows.
You will operate with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced, low-process environment, contributing not only to technical decisions but also to product direction and commercial outcomes.

This role requires a pragmatic mindset, the ability to work with ambiguity, and a strong sense of ownership in defining and solving complex problems.

Responsibilities

    • Design and evolve system architecture across platform infrastructure, including complex and high-scale environments.
    • Lead architectural decisions and make pragmatic trade-offs across the full technology stack.
    • Refactor and modernise legacy codebases using AI-assisted development workflows.
    • Build and integrate AI agents and automation into development, product, and operational processes.
    • Contribute to product strategy and commercial decisions, not just technical execution.
    • Work across backend systems, primarily using modern backend technologies such as Golang where applicable.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define problems and shape technical direction.
    • Operate independently in a high-velocity environment, driving initiatives from concept to delivery.
    • Ensure systems are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with long-term business goals.
    • Leverage cloud infrastructure to support system performance, reliability, and growth.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on system design and architecture.
  • 6+ years of experience in system design and architecture, including designing scalable and complex systems.
  • 2+ years of practical experience using AI tooling in development (e.g. LLMs, agents, automation workflows).
  • 5+ years of experience in backend engineering, preferably with Golang or similar technologies.
  • 3+ years of experience working with cloud and infrastructure, preferably AWS.
  • 2+ years of experience in legacy system refactoring and modernisation.
  • Strong product thinking and commercial awareness, with the ability to contribute beyond pure engineering.
  • Proven experience working across the full stack and making pragmatic technical trade-offs.
  • Experience leading projects or major technical initiatives.
  • Ability to work effectively with incomplete information and shape direction.
  • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to define and solve problems independently.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building or integrating AI agents into engineering or product workflows.
  • Exposure to fintech, payments, or platform-based systems.
  • Experience working in high-growth or startup environments.
  • Strong interest in leveraging AI to improve engineering velocity and system design.

Benefits

  • Fixed Shifts: 12:00 PM - 9:30 PM IST (Summer) | 1:00 PM - 10:30 PM IST (Winter)
  • No Weekend Work: Real work-life balance, not just words
  • Day 1 Benefits: Laptop and full medical insurance provided
  • Support That Matters:Mentorship, community, and forums where ideas are shared
  • True Belonging: A long-term career where your contributions are valued

At Smart Working, you’ll never be just another remote hire.

Be a Smart Worker - valued, empowered, and part of a culture that celebrates integrity, excellence, and ambition.

If that sounds like your kind of place, we’d love to hear your story.
