This is a Senior or higher-level position.
Our ideal candidate is a deeply experienced Firmware engineer with expert-level command of AOSP. But more than that, they’re experienced in working on low-level APIs, navigating AOSP, and implementing Android solutions for custom hardware. Experience working with Jetpack Compose is nice to have, but not required.
Responsibilities
You will be directly responsible for all aspects of our firmware engineering:
- Support new hardware initiatives and existing device operational support by creating, updating, and reviewing firmware code.
- Collaborate with product management and other engineers on technical requirements.
- Work with new and existing manufacturing partners for hardware and firmware compatibility.
- Conduct testing of firmware and associated software applications for stability, usability, and security.
- Create and maintain documentation related to firmware development.
- Collaborate closely with the hardware team for seamless integration of firmware and hardware components.
- Assist in project management for firmware development,ensuring timely delivery.
- Provide technical support for firmware-related issues internally and externally.
- Profile our hardware and software and help us identify and improve performance issues at every level, from hardware to SDKs.
- Stay updated with latest trends in firmware engineering and Android AOSP.
- Occasionally dig into the hardware to understand whether issues are coming from the hardware or our software
- Communicate regularly and clearly with stakeholders about progress and challenges.
Requirements
- 6+ years of firmware development experience, focusing on Android
- Deep expertise in AOSP and the Android SDK
- Experience working with custom hardware
- Hands-on experience with Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth APIs, including connectivity and pairing flows
- Solid understanding of release management and OTA workflows
- Tinkerer/Debugger mindset; electrical engineering background or expertise is a plus!
- Experience with AWS CodeBuild and CodeCommit for CI/CD automation and source control
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate well with a fully remote team

For Colorado-based candidates, the range being offered for this role is $180K-210K based on experience and for California-based candidates, the range being offered for this role is $180-210K based on experience.
