SEGA Europe Limited

Sega Corporation is a Japanese multinational video game and entertainment company headquartered in Tokyo. Originally founded as Nihon Goraku Bussan on June 3, 1960, by American businessmen Martin Bromley and Richard Stewart, the company's roots trace back to Standard Games in Hawaii in 1940, which provided coin-operated amusement machines to military bases. After several transformations and acquisitions, including the acquisition of Rosen Enterprises in 1965 which led to the name Sega Enterprises, Ltd., the company established itself in the arcade industry. Sega developed its first coin-operated game, 'Periscope,' in 1966, which became a significant hit and led to the export of their games.

Throughout its history, Sega has been a prominent figure in both the arcade and home console markets. The company is renowned for developing iconic video game consoles such as the Master System (1986), the Genesis/Mega Drive (1988), the Saturn (1994), and the Dreamcast (1998). The release of 'Sonic the Hedgehog' in 1991 for the Genesis catapulted the console to mainstream success and established Sonic as Sega's enduring mascot, rivaling Nintendo's Mario. Despite the success of the Genesis, Sega faced increasing competition and challenges in the console market, eventually leading to its exit from console hardware development in 2001. Since then, Sega has focused on software development as a third-party publisher for various platforms, including those from former competitors. The company is responsible for numerous multi-million-selling game franchises, such as 'Sonic the Hedgehog,' 'Yakuza,' 'Total War,' 'Phantasy Star,' and 'Persona.' In 2004, Sega merged with Sammy Corporation to form Sega Sammy Holdings Inc., a major player in the broader entertainment industry. Sega Corporation continues to plan, develop, and sell game-related content for mobile phones, PCs, smart devices, and home video game consoles, maintaining a significant global presence with international branches including Sega of America and Sega Europe.
