We are a global team (spread across 8 countries) of designers, architects, engineers, and dreamers building spaces that restore and inspire. For us, it's not just where people live - it's how they live.
Our vision is to bring Sanctuary to major cities around the world: healthy, sovereign communities that sit on the edges of every modern metropolis.
About the role
Sanctuary is a construction and development company operating across 7 to 8 entities with different payment structures. We are looking for a precise, ownership-driven Accountant who can walk into a fast-moving environment, figure out what needs to be done, and just do it - without being told twice.
This is not a clock-in clock-out role.
It is not basic bookkeeping.
It is not consolidating numbers someone else has already organized.
You will be the only finance person on the ground, and you will be expected to own the financial operations of this company end to end - from cleaning up what is behind to building a system that keeps things accurate and visible going forward.
If you need hand-holding, a manager to escalate to, or a structured SOP on day one, this role is not for you.
If you thrive in ambiguity, are obsessive about accuracy, and take personal ownership of every number you touch, keep reading....
What you’ll do
Full ownership of books across 7 to 8 entities in QuickBooks - entries, categorization, accuracy
Backtrack and reconcile all invoices paid to date, identify outstanding amounts, and flag what is still owed to whom and by when
Track and manage all incoming and outgoing invoices across entities including construction-side payments previously managed by the team
Own accounts payable end to end - know exactly which payments are due, to whom, and when
Build and maintain a forward-looking cash flow tracker so the team always knows what payments are coming and can communicate proactively with consultants and vendors if timelines shift
Reconcile bank transactions, payment confirmations, and internal records regularly and accurately - no missed entries, no approximations
Flag gaps, inconsistencies, and risks before they become problems
Own India payroll entries, statutory compliance filings, and coordination with the payroll compliance vendor
Support documentation for draw applications and any external financial processes
What we’re looking for
4 to 8 years of experience in full-cycle accounting - not just bookkeeping, not just compliance, both
Deep proficiency in QuickBooks Online - this is non-negotiable
Experience handling India statutory payroll compliance filings end to end - PF, ESI, TDS, PT - independently, not via a CA or vendor
Obsessive attention to detail - you do not miss large entries, you do not miss small ones either
Strong English communication - written and verbal, you will be coordinating with US-based founders and consultants regularly
Comfortable operating with zero hand-holding in an environment where the playbook does not exist yet
Strong working knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets
Experience working across multiple entities simultaneously
What success looks like at 30 days
You have gone through QuickBooks across all active entities and know exactly what is in there and what is not
You have a clear, accurate picture of every outstanding invoice - who is owed, how much, and since when
You have flagged anything broken, missing, or at risk
You have started building a cash flow tracker the team can actually use to plan and communicate future payments
The team no longer has to chase you - you are the one coming to them
Who this role is for
You are someone who finds a messy set of books and feels the urge to fix it, not avoid it.
You catch things others miss.
You do not need to be told what to do next - you look at the situation and figure it out.
You understand that in a company like this, being late is sometimes unavoidable, but being silent about it is not acceptable.
You communicate proactively, you own your mistakes, and you do not let things fall through the cracks.
