RCLCO Fund Advisors (RFA), a division of RCLCO, guides large-scale investors, including pension funds and sovereign wealth funds, in their real estate investment strategies and assists in managing their large and complex real estate portfolios. Founded in 2011, RFA became a registered investment advisor (RIA) with the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2014. Today it boasts several of the top 20 national institutional investors as primary clients, and it also serves large international investors including family offices, financial institutions, and sovereign wealth funds. RFA currently has approximately $100 billion of assets under advisement and has advised on over $11 billion of equity investments for its clients.

RFA is improving the traditional institutional real estate investment model by providing customized and aligned advisory and investment management solutions to limited partners (LPs). THE POSITION

With its rapidly growing client roster, RFA seeks a qualified Vice President to join the team as a key project and client manager. The Vice President will contribute as both a client portfolio manager, working to optimize portfolio composition and performance, and an institutional investment consultant, assisting clients with their investment strategies. In both cases, the Vice President will work to address the important and unique issues regarding real estate investing faced by institutional investors, including:

  • Developing investment strategies that maximize value throughout the cycle through the development and implementation of investment ideas, pacing plans, policies, and risk management systems.
    • Providing high quality and forward-looking investment analyses, including review of assets, separate accounts, funds, and programmatic joint ventures that will provide superior risk-adjusted investment returns.
    • Strategically guiding clients on their investment decisions and analyses through discussion, presentations, articles, and custom deliverables.

The Vice President will report to Ben Maslan, Managing Director, and collaborate closely with other Managing Directors in RFA while managing Analysts and Associates with expertise in underwriting and financial analysis. This position can be based out of either the Los Angeles or Denver office of RCLCO, both of which have a high concentration of RFA team members.

Core responsibilities of the Vice President include:
• Serve as a project leader for client analyses. Develop work plans and establish accountability for team members and oneself.
• Provide analytical support for client real estate investment strategy development and portfolio planning/construction/evaluation.
• In collaboration with senior team members, review and select potential fund managers and/or operating partners by assisting in manager interviews and analyzing their track records, strategies, pipelines, financial and operating structures.
• Underwrite new investments on behalf of institutional investors across multiple property types and locations, including the review of cash flow assumptions, pricing, fees, and preparation of discounted cash flow models including complex waterfall fee structures.
• Review existing assets, including investment performance reporting, hold/sell analyses, budget reviews, capital plans, restructuring analyses, and appraisal reviews.
• Research and develop informed perspectives on industry trends and participants, and translate these findings into potential investment theses and strategies.
• Evaluate and make recommendations relative to client policy and internal guidelines for real estate investments.
• Review and translate quarterly performance reports from each investment manager into key takeaways and action items for clients.
• Produce reports and presentations to communicate key findings and recommendations to RFA’s Investment Committee and clients.
• Maintain and grow working relationships with clients.
• Mentor, train, and supervise junior team members.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Experience: 6+ years of work experience requiring quantitative analysis, ideally in real estate investments or management consulting

Education: A bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics, real estate, finance, business, or related fields.

The successful candidate will have the following career experience, abilities, and attributes:
• Advanced spreadsheet skills in financial modeling and analysis
• Demonstrated knowledge of commercial real estate underwriting, valuation, and investment theory
• Ability to structure quantitative and qualitative problem-solving approaches with attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent analytical, quantitative, written, and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to tailor communication to different audiences.
• Experience managing junior team members on projects. This person’s success depends on their ability to leverage the work of internal team members above and below while taking a hands-on approach themselves.
• Experience managing multiple projects and project teams at any given time under various time frames and constraints
• Track record of developing genuine relationships with and respect from internal and external business partners. Strength of character and flexible style to work successfully with a diverse range of people.
• Demonstrated leadership potential and a drive to succeed professionally.
• Commitment to continual learning and development on both a personal and team level.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Estimated base salary range: $130K-160K, plus annual bonus
