Job Summary

The Data Analyst I is responsible for supporting the development, documentation, analysis, and continuous improvement of data systems and processes. This role works closely with system developers, clients, and user groups to ensure effective communication, accurate gathering requirements, and high-quality system performance. The Data Analyst I contributes to enhancing state and district education data collection, integration, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Business & Reporting Requirements Management

  • Gather, define, and drive the development of business, functional, and reporting requirements.
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate operational needs into clear, actionable specifications.
  • Maintain thorough documentation for requirements, change requests, and related artifacts.

Data Analysis & Reporting Solutions

  • Write and optimize SQL queries to support ad hoc analysis and reporting needs.

  • Develop and deliver reports and dashboards using SSRS, Power BI, and Azure Databricks.

  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability of data across reports and analytics solutions.

System Documentation & Data Governance

  • Manage and maintain data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, and technical documentation.

  • Ensure documentation remains current and aligned with system updates and enhancements.

  • Support data integrity and transparency across all supported products and services.

Process Improvement & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Collaborate with developers, clients, and user focus groups to support continuous system enhancement.

  • Lead and participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) to validate system functionality.

  • Analyze operational processes to identify and implement efficiency improvements in data collection, integration, and reporting at state and district levels.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with database management tools.

  • Basic SQL skills for querying and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.

  • Basic knowledge of Azure Databricks for data querying.

  • Experience generating ad hoc reports using SQL, SSMS, SSRS, or equivalent reporting tools.

  • Ability to create and utilize Power BI dashboards and paginated reports, familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform is a plus.

  • Strong organizational, presentation, and written communication skills, with the ability to listen, inquire, and communicate effectively.

  • Strong commitment to supporting a team culture centered on exceptional client service, high-quality products, clear communication, and effective collaboration.

  • Ability to work independently as well as within diverse, multi-tasking team environments.

  • Ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and drive positive change.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant technical certification or a minimum of 3 years of related experience required.

Substantial professional experience in a related field may be considered in lieu of formal degree.

Preferred Attributes:

Minimum of 3 years of prior experience gathering, defining, and articulating business requirements.

Compensation Range: $60,000-$75,000
