Sr. Principal Software Engineer – CAD

Position Summary

As a SR. Principal Software Engineer in CAD, you will play a critical leadership role in designing, developing, and scaling advanced CAD capabilities that power PTC’s SaaS strategy. Beyond hands-on development, you will drive architectural decisions, set technical standards, and mentor engineers to deliver high-quality, innovative solutions. You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, architects, and global engineering teams to ensure our CAD platform remains robust, scalable, and future-ready.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Lead the design and optimization of CAD components, services, and data structures for SaaS environments.

  • Influence architectural decisions and ensure alignment with enterprise-wide technical strategy.

• Development & Implementation

  • Deliver production-ready, scalable software solutions with a focus on performance, reliability, and maintainability.

  • Drive adoption of modern engineering practices and secure coding standards.

• Mentorship & Collaboration

  • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence.

  • Partner with stakeholders to translate complex requirements into actionable technical solutions.

• Code Quality & Standards

  • Establish and enforce coding guidelines, conduct peer reviews, and champion best practices.

  • Ensure comprehensive unit, integration, and performance testing.

• Cross-Team Alignment

  • Collaborate with global engineering teams to align APIs, frameworks, and cross-product standards.

  • Represent CAD engineering in cross-functional initiatives and technical forums.

• DevOps & CI/CD

  • Oversee CI/CD pipelines, troubleshoot issues, and drive infrastructure improvements.

  • Contribute to monitoring, performance analysis, and system reliability efforts.

Skills & Knowledge

• Deep expertise in C++ and object-oriented programming; experience in computational geometry or rendering highly desirable.

• Strong background in Java (JSPs, Spring) and working knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript.

• Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (Angular, React), HTML5, CSS, and asynchronous programming.

• Advanced understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.

• Proven experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, and testing frameworks (JUnit, etc.).

• Solid knowledge of SQL and relational databases.

• Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices at scale.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in a senior or lead role.

• Demonstrated success in delivering enterprise-grade, production-ready software in Agile environments.

• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• Track record of mentoring engineers and driving technical strategy.
