Role Overview

We are seeking a Business Systems Analyst who is as comfortable in the field as they are in a database. This role is the critical bridge between legacy operational workflows and our modern Asset Management application, specifically tailored for the Utilities, Public Works, and Municipalities sectors.

You will guide stakeholders through the digital transformation of critical infrastructure management. Your mission is to untangle complex legacy processes (from water distribution to facility maintenance), document them with precision, and configure our application to solve real-world civic challenges. A major component of this role involves data stewardship: auditing legacy data in Excel or flat files and architecting the migration into our SQL-backed environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Industry-Specific Discovery: Lead extensive requirements-gathering sessions to understand the unique operational needs of Public Works and Utilities (e.g., preventative maintenance for fleet, water/wastewater assets, and municipal facility management).
  • Legacy-to-Modern Bridge: Translate "how things are done today" in paper-based or legacy systems into optimized, automated workflows within our Asset Management platform.
  • Deep-Dive Workflow Documentation: Produce high-fidelity process maps and "As-Is vs. To-Be" documentation. You must visualize complex asset lifecycles—from procurement and work order management to depreciation and GIS integration.
  • Data Migration & SQL Integration: Analyze legacy data sets (primarily Excel/CSV) to identify gaps and mapping requirements. You will lead the migration into SQL databases, ensuring data normalization and referential integrity for critical infrastructure records.
  • Agile Configuration: Use an Agile mindset to iteratively configure the application (custom fields, automated triggers, and mobile workflows) based on sprint priorities and user feedback.
  • Validation & UAT: Partner with municipal stakeholders during User Acceptance Testing to ensure that migrated data and system configurations meet the high-stakes requirements of public service operations.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5 years as a Business Systems Analyst, with a strong preference for experience in EAM (Enterprise Asset Management), CMMS, or GIS-centric implementations, Direct experience in Utilities, Public Works, or Facilities Management is highly beneficial and preferred.
  • Domain Knowledge: A proven ability to quickly learn and navigate the complexities of Utilities, Public Works, Municipalities, or Facilities Management.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • SQL & Data: Strong ability to write SQL queries for data validation and experience using migration tools to move data from flat files to relational databases.
    • Documentation: Expert-level skill in Lucid chart, Visio, or similar workflow modeling tools.
    • Agile Mastery: Direct experience working in Agile/Scrum framework.
  • Core Competencies:
    • The "Translator" Ability: You can speak "technical" to developers and "operational" to a Public Works Director , Asset Manager, a Field worker without losing anything in translation.
    • Systems Thinking: The ability to see how a single configuration change affects the broader data ecosystem and public safety.
    • Stewardship: A commitment to data cleanliness and process integrity.
