National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition

The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) is an alliance of over 150 grassroots organizations that advocates for federal policy reform to advance the sustainability of agriculture, food systems, natural resources, and rural communities. Founded on the belief that a safe, nutritious, ample, and affordable food supply should be produced by family farmers who make a decent living while protecting the environment, NSAC works to level the playing field in federal policy discussions typically dominated by big business interests. By bringing grassroots perspectives to Washington, D.C., the coalition gives voice to sustainable and organic farmers across the nation.

NSAC's approach involves gathering input directly from sustainable and organic farmers, ranchers, and diverse grassroots farm, food, rural, and conservation organizations. The coalition develops policy through participatory issue committees that involve member organizations and allies, then provides direct representation before Congress and federal administrative offices such as the USDA and EPA. Beyond policy advocacy, NSAC builds the power of the sustainable agriculture movement by strengthening the capacity of its member groups to promote citizen engagement in the policy process, supporting small and mid-size family farms, protecting natural resources, promoting healthy rural communities, and ensuring access to healthy, nutritious foods for everyone.
