Position Summary
The Director of Utilization Management is responsible for providing the leadership, oversight, direction and strategic vision of the Utilization, Denial Management, Payer Notification and Payer Audit response process for inpatient and outpatient/Observation care provided by MultiCare Health System to achieve quality and service-driven objectives. The Director implements best practice procedures for provider appeals, payer audit responses, utilization review and notification, in compliance with government and contractual guidelines and the mission, philosophy and objectives of MultiCare. The Director creates teams and guides all phases of the development, organization, planning and implementation of projects/initiatives/workflows/processes to enhance and improve quality-driven outcomes for MultiCare System Utilization Management. Hospital-based leaders may have a dual matrixed reporting structure.Requirements
- A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN), Health Administration, Nutrition or business-related field
- A Master's Degree in Business, Public Health or Healthcare administration preferred
- Ten (10) years of nursing experience in an acute care setting particularly in medical/surgical, pediatrics, or obstetric in a managed care environment
- Five (5) years of utilization management and/or case management experience
- Five (5) years of previous management experience including responsibilities for hiring, training, assigning work and managing performance of staff
- Current Registered Nurse license in Washington State or Multistate License endorsement (MLS)
- Utilization review/management certification, or equivalent professional certification preferred

Pay and Benefit Expectations
We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $174,699.00 - $242,507.00 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education.
