Whether its democracy, health care, foreign policy, economic justice, immigration or otherwise, MoveOn provides our members with timely ways to take action for change.

We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly-organized Development Manager to serve as lead project manager for major donor fundraising activities across MoveOn’s entities. This is a key role in helping to grow and sustain the organization’s major donor program. Successful candidates will be strategic and creative, collaborate with a dynamic, committed, high-impact, low-ego staff, and coordinate and manage multiple projects.

This Development Manager will work closely with the Executive Director. The position will require managing the Executive Director’s relations with MoveOn’s major donors, as well as supporting efforts to broaden MoveOn’s major donor base. This is a new position that will have the opportunity to grow with the organization and the fundraising team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as lead project manager for the major donor program.
  • Manage the life cycle, pipeline, and moves management of major donors from identification, cultivation and stewardship, CRM management, ask, gift acknowledgement, receipt of funds, reporting, and renewals and upgrades.
  • Plan and execute strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospective, lapsed, and current individual and institutional donors.
  • Research potential new donors, as well as possibilities for upgrades from current one-time and recurring donors, and support the outreach process.
  • Work with the COO on annual goal-setting. Manage and track progress towards those goals.
  • Manage overall donor data tracking using the internal CRM and other systems.
  • Ensure the Executive Director maintains correspondence with existing and prospective major donors in a timely and professional manner, including managing call time when needed.
  • Working with the programmatic team and others across the organization, prepare proposals, write grant reports, and track reporting deadlines.
  • Prepare the Executive Director for meetings with donors, manage fundraising schedules, and, when required, accompany the Executive Director to donor meetings.
  • Lead in the creation of development-related marketing materials and communications.
  • Work with the executive team and mid-level donor team to execute donor-facing virtual events.
  • Work with the Executive Assistant and executive team to ensure Executive Director travel strategy includes major donors.
  • Manage, with the Executive Director, Board engagement in development activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate should have the following experience and qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience working in non-profit or political fundraising departments.
  • Ability to grasp and communicate complex campaigns, ideas, and goals of our work in clear, accessible, and compelling ways.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Demonstrates a very high level of organization; a strong ability to prioritize tasks to meet multiple deadlines, with a track record of developing systems that support major donor fundraising strategies.
  • A clear understanding of 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and PAC/Super PAC legal issues, structures. and unique fundraising needs for each entity
  • Demonstrated success in strategic thinking, planning, implementation, and problem-solving.
  • A high degree of flexibility, dedicated work ethic, and the ability to manage in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where priorities can change when news breaks.
  • Fluency in Excel and Google Sheets; experience working with a fundraising or CRM database.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of MoveOn:
    • Have experience with and a deep commitment to applying anti-oppression frameworks, especially regarding racial, gender, and economic injustice.
    • Deep understanding of, and a commitment to, diversity, equity and inclusion.

LOCATION: Position may be based anywhere in the continental United States. May require occasional travel.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

CLASSIFICATION, SALARY AND BENEFITS: At MoveOn, we commit to equity in our compensation philosophy and practices. We are committed to equal pay for equal work. To counter systemic compensation issues in this country and pay inequality, we have a nonnegotiable compensation practice. We utilize benchmarking and peer organization data to ensure we provide competitive nonprofit compensation and benefits. The annual salary for this position is $$122,527.46. In addition to the base salary, we offer a monthly home office subsidy. We also offer an internet and phone subsidy of $2,100 annually and a health and wellness subsidy of $900 annually. All of these cash benefits are added to your bimonthly paycheck. We offer strong medical, dental, and vision benefits, which are free to employees and children of employees (spouses or domestic partners can be added at a subsidized rate). We offer employer-paid premiums for life insurance; four weeks accrued paid vacation time per year, prorated for the period that you work; 18 weeks of paid parental leave (birth, adoption, foster care placement of a child), 10 days accrued paid sick time prorated for the period that you work; paid family medical leave; and 8 staff holidays and 6 floating holidays. We contribute 5% to your 401(k) after six months of employment. We also offer a $1000 in professional development budget each year for each staff member.
