As a Service Continuity Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the organisation can maintain essential operations and recover critical IT services after a disruptive event, like a disaster. This involves creating, testing, and updating business continuity plans, conducting risk and business impact analyses, and coordinating response efforts to minimise downtime and protect the organisation's reputation.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include
- Planning and strategy: Developing and maintaining plans that support the overall business continuity strategy, ensuring they align with business needs and identified risks.
- Risk and impact analysis: Conducting regular business impact and risk analyses to identify vulnerabilities and ensure continuity plans address the most critical areas.
- Incident response: Acting as a central point of contact during an incident to activate recovery plans, mobilise resources, and communicate with stakeholders, senior management, and external partners.
- Testing and maintenance: Coordinating and facilitating regular testing and exercises to validate the effectiveness of continuity procedures and make improvements.
- Supplier management: Negotiating and agreeing on contracts with suppliers for recovery capabilities to meet the organisation's continuity requirements.
- Training and guidance: Providing advice and guidance to IT teams and other stakeholders and delivering training to ensure preparedness across the organisation.
- Reporting: Designing and producing reports to demonstrate the organisation's continuity capability and tracking progress against key metrics.
You may be required to undertake other duties assigned by your line manager as appropriate
Requirements
We are looking for someone with the following
- Experience in enterprise risk management, disaster recovery, and service continuity planning, with a strong focus on ISO31000 and ISO22301.
- Expertise in implementing risk management and service continuity frameworks according to industry standards (ISO 31000, ISO 27005, ISO 22301, etc.)
- Experience of Microsoft Azure SaaS, PaaS and IaaS disaster backup, resilience, and recovery patterns.
- Proven ability to define and mature policies and lead successful recovery strategies, with specific experience in conducting disaster recovery tests.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, capable of fostering collaboration across departments and with external partners.
- Ability to rapidly absorb and interpret complex information, translating it into clear, actionable strategies and communicating plans and adjustments effectively to a variety of audiences.
- Strong organisational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the capability to lead work confidently — both independently and as a key member of collaborative project teams.
- Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
Reporting structure
This role sits within the Service function and will report to the Head of Service Management.
