The Team
We have expanded our tentacles and are looking for someone (ideally based in Melbourne, Australia or remote within Australia) to join our Global Platform Engineering Systems team.
Our
Systems team manage and provide the bedrock virtual infrastructure used by all teams at
Kraken. As a Systems Platform Engineer, you’ll help manage the shared infrastructure across all clients, including; deployment pipelines, infrastructure as code, core networking, container orchestration, and cloud native infrastructure.
What you'll do:
- Deliver platform improvements through features, bug fixes, and automation.
- Manage and operate Kubernetes-based environments - we use EKS.
- Implement and maintain GitOps workflows using ArgoCD.
- Build platform tooling and automation primarily in Go or Python also acceptable.
- Provide production support for highly-available, internet-facing systems.
- Collaborate with a global, remote-first team using asynchronous communication.
- Contribute to code reviews, troubleshooting, and technology evaluations.
What you'll have:
- Prior experience managing Kubernetes clusters in production across major cloud platforms EKS, AKS, GKE; EKS experience is preferred.
- Experience with Helm for package management in Kubernetes.
- Practical experience with GitOps tools such as ArgoCD or FluxCD in production.
- Proficiency in Go (preferred) or Python for platform automation and development.
- Strong understanding of AWS services beyond Kubernetes (networking, IAM, storage, etc.).
- Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform or similar)
- Knowledge of containers and observability tools (Datadog or similar).
- Understanding of security best practices in Kubernetes and CI/CD.
- Clear and effective communication skills in distributed, asynchronous teams.

- Experience maintaining or developing Kubernetes operators.
- Strong Linux systems and Kubernetes knowledge paired with troubleshooting skills.
- Proactive, problem-solving orientation with an interest in continual improvement.
- Prior experience in globally distributed, follow-the-sun teams.
