In this role, you will lead the design, implementation, and administration of enterprise-scale Databricks platforms, enabling secure, compliant, and highly performant data solutions. You will collaborate with data engineering teams, business units, and technology partners to deliver scalable analytics infrastructure, enforce governance and security policies, and optimize operational efficiency. This position provides technical leadership on cloud data architecture, medallion-tiered environments, and data integration strategies. Accountabilities:
The Sr Databricks Platform Engineer is responsible for architecting and maintaining the enterprise Databricks environment to support analytics and data engineering:
- Design, configure, and manage Databricks Unity Catalog, workspace structures, and medallion-tiered environments (Bronze/Silver/Gold).
- Enable secure data access, governance, and compliance across multiple business units and external clients.
- Build and maintain platform infrastructure for large-scale transactional data across multiple databases.
- Integrate data from sources such as MSSQL, Postgres, Oracle, and others using tools like ADF, QLIK CDC, and Lakeflow Connect.
- Monitor platform observability, lineage, and governance features to ensure adherence to ITGC, SOC, SOX, and HIPAA standards.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and architecture teams to implement Azure-based Databricks solutions.
- Manage Unity Catalog administration, workspace bindings, cluster policies, and FinOps cost optimization.
- Provide guidance to development teams on secure data patterns and compliance best practices.
Requirements
Candidates should have extensive experience in Databricks platform engineering and cloud data solutions:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related STEM field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years managing production Databricks environments at enterprise scale.
- Expertise with Databricks Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, Delta Live Tables, LakeFlow, SQL Warehouses, and medallion architecture implementations.
- Hands-on experience administering workspaces, metastores, clusters, jobs, and serverless compute in Databricks.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, GitHub Actions, etc.) for Databricks and Azure provisioning.
- Knowledge of Azure AD/Entra and SailPoint integration for identity and access governance.
- Familiarity with cloud cost management (FinOps), monitoring, and observability solutions.
- Experience with data ingestion patterns (batch, streaming, CDC) and supporting multi-tenant cloud environments with strict compliance requirements.
- Excellent collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills; ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams.
