Accountabilities
As a Software Power Systems Engineer III, you will:
- Gather detailed technical information from SMEs regarding power system assessments, including steady-state, transient stability, and short-circuit studies.
- Translate complex engineering requirements into clear, software-development-ready specifications.
- Conduct QA/QC of software releases, validating technical data and ensuring accurate transmission study outputs.
- Support consulting teams and clients by providing technical guidance on automated processes.
- Write and maintain scripts to integrate with power systems solvers and conform to large-scale automation frameworks.
- Deliver technical demonstrations for new users and sales initiatives, highlighting product capabilities and analytical features.
- Explore opportunities for data reuse and value-added analysis to enhance modeling and software outputs.
Requirements
Candidates should have:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Energy Markets, or a related field.
- 2–8+ years of experience in power systems engineering and energy market analysis (depending on degree level).
- Strong knowledge of the US transmission network and generation development within at least one US power market.
- Experience contributing to software engineering or workflow automation projects in the energy sector.
- Proficiency with software development tools including Git, Python, and shell scripting.
- Experience performing power system assessments such as steady-state, short-circuit, and transient stability studies.
- Familiarity with software development practices, GIS, databases, and data management.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with multiple power system solver tools (PSSE, TARA, Synergi, DSA Tools, etc.).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, for solver and automation processes.
- Experience across multiple power markets, ISOs, RTOs, or transmission companies.
