Senior Software Engineer - Chats Stream

In this role, you will join the core team responsible for building and scaling one of the most critical real-time communication systems in the creator ecosystem. You will work on high-volume chat infrastructure that powers creator–fan interactions, AI-driven features, and key monetisation flows. The position involves designing performant distributed services, improving system reliability, and enabling new product capabilities that directly impact user engagement and revenue. You will collaborate closely with product and infrastructure teams, drive architectural decisions, and bring strong technical leadership to a fast-moving engineering environment. This is a high-impact opportunity to own major technical surfaces and help shape next-generation social and AI experiences.

Accountabilities:

• Design, build, and maintain real-time, stateful chat services capable of operating at scale.
• Develop and evolve internal event-driven APIs linking chat data with monetisation, user systems, and AI-enabled features.
• Monitor and optimise system performance across latency, throughput, concurrency, and resilience metrics.
• Architect foundational data and API structures that power Always-On AI capabilities such as translation, summarisation, and autonomous workflows.
• Produce clear technical designs and contribute to rigorous, high-quality code reviews.
• Collaborate with product teams to deliver new social and monetisation features including reactions, in-chat tipping, and unlockable content.
• Work with SRE to define infrastructure standards, observability, monitoring, and scaling strategies for peak usage periods.
• Act as a senior technical leader, enhancing engineering practices and mentoring teammates.

Requirements

• Strong background in real-time system and distributed service development, including WebSockets, gRPC, or streaming architectures.
• Ability to architect scalable and fault-tolerant systems, with deep understanding of performance at scale.
• Product-oriented mindset, capable of aligning engineering decisions with user value and monetisation outcomes.
• High ownership mentality, with a pragmatic and results-driven approach to complex engineering challenges.
• Experience diagnosing performance bottlenecks using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or DataDog.
• Mastery of backend languages such as Go, Node.js, or C#, along with strong API design experience across REST and event-driven systems.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate architectural decisions and trade-offs clearly.
• Bonus skills include experience with creator platforms, chat or messaging products, AI-enabled systems, NoSQL or in-memory stores like Redis or DynamoDB, and prior work on monetisation or transactional messaging features.
