We are seeking an experienced and versatile Senior DevOps System Engineer to support secure, scalable, and modern cloud-based IT systems in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment. This role focuses on implementing robust DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure on AWS or Azure, ensuring operational excellence while meeting strict federal security standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, integrate security into Agile workflows, and support the modernization of legacy systems. This position offers the opportunity to lead technical initiatives, mentor team members, and influence enterprise-level DevOps and security strategies, while directly contributing to high-impact projects.
Accountabilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps for secure and efficient application delivery.
- Engineer and optimize cloud infrastructure on AWS or Azure, embedding security controls such as IAM policies and encryption.
- Conduct security assessments, vulnerability scans, and risk mitigation activities to ensure compliance with federal standards (FISMA, NIST 800-53, FIPS 140-2).
- Collaborate with Scrum Masters, Cloud Engineers, and Release Managers to integrate security practices into Agile sprints and release cycles.
- Harden cloud environments and pipelines, monitor system performance with tools like AWS CloudWatch or Azure Monitor, and resolve operational issues.
- Support migration of applications to cloud platforms, ensuring secure architecture, seamless transitions, and post-migration stability.
- Document DevOps workflows, configurations, and contribute to status reporting using tools such as Jira, GitHub, and ServiceNow.
- Integrate emerging technologies, including containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) or AI solutions, into DevOps processes.
- Provide technical mentorship on DevOps tools, cloud security, and federal compliance to team members.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field.
- Active certification in at least one: AWS Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional), AWS DevOps Engineer (Professional), Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, or ISC2 CISSP.
- 10+ years of experience in DevOps engineering, cloud infrastructure, or cybersecurity, preferably in federal IT environments.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipeline development, cloud platforms (AWS or Azure), and security tools such as Terraform, Jenkins, Nessus, or Qualys.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance efficiency and security.
- Familiarity with federal security frameworks (FISMA, NIST, HIPAA) and Agile methodologies (VIP Lean-Agile framework).
- Proficiency in MS Office and VA-approved tools including Jira, GitHub, ServiceNow.
- Ability to adapt to evolving technical and security requirements and occasional travel to client sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with VA, VBA, or VHA IT environments.
- Additional DevOps or security certifications.
