This role offers an exciting opportunity to work remotely as a key contributor to large-scale mainframe database systems, focusing on IBM DB2 for z/OS in mission-critical environments. The position involves planning, configuring, and maintaining DB2 databases to support secure and high-performance operations, including disaster recovery, patch management, and system upgrades. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with cybersecurity requirements and support operational readiness. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented and experienced database professional who thrives in complex, secure, and dynamic technical environments, particularly within DoD or federal systems.
Accountabilities
As a Senior DB2 Database Systems Programmer, you will:
- Plan, install, configure, and implement DB2 for z/OS in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Support Coupling Facility sizing and group buffer pools to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Perform DB2 service upgrades, patch management, and REBIND operations.
- Execute DB2 utilities for backup, recovery, and subsystem maintenance.
- Configure and maintain DB2 RACF for secure access and operations.
- Provide technical guidance and assistance to internal teams.
- Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements, including preparation for audits and Authority to Operate (ATO).
- Perform other duties as assigned, including support for government or DoD contract operations.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret Clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math with 7 years of experience in IBM DB2 mainframe environments, OR 10 years of relevant experience without a degree.
- Extensive experience installing, configuring, and maintaining IBM DB2 database software in large-scale mainframe environments.
- Familiarity with mainframe operations, system upgrades, patching, and DB2 utilities.
- Experience with RACF configuration and security compliance in highly regulated environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
- Prior experience with DoD, federal, or government contracts is a plus.
