This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design, analysis, and optimization of high-voltage transmission lines and substation systems. You will perform advanced electrical studies that support safe, reliable, and efficient power delivery projects. Working within a collaborative engineering team, you will apply analytical expertise to real-world challenges, ensuring system performance meets industry standards and project requirements. The position combines technical rigor with cross-functional collaboration, including coordination with project management, protection & controls, and construction teams. You will also develop technical reports, provide recommendations for equipment and system design, and participate in client-facing discussions. This role is ideal for engineers passionate about shaping critical power infrastructure and making a tangible impact on energy reliability.
Accountabilities:
- Perform power system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, arc flash, grounding, insulation coordination, and transient stability analyses.
- Support transmission line and substation design with study-driven recommendations for equipment ratings, relay coordination, and system configuration.
- Develop and maintain electrical system models using software such as ETAP, ASPEN OneLiner, CYME, PSCAD, or PSS®E.
- Evaluate system performance under normal and contingency scenarios to ensure compliance with reliability and protection standards.
- Prepare technical reports, calculations, and design documentation summarizing study results and recommendations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including protection & controls, physical design, and project management to ensure smooth project execution.
- Provide technical guidance and insights during project planning, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Ensure all deliverables comply with industry codes, standards (IEEE, NESC, ANSI, NERC), and internal QA/QC procedures.
- Present findings and solutions in client and interdepartmental meetings, supporting informed decision-making.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems focus preferred).
- 2–5 years of experience conducting electrical studies for transmission or substation projects.
- Proficiency with one or more power system analysis tools (ETAP, ASPEN, CYME, PSS®E, PSCAD).
- Strong understanding of transmission and substation design, equipment operation, and protection coordination.
- Working knowledge of IEEE, NESC, NEMA, ANSI, and IEC standards.
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- EIT certification required; Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred or attainable within a reasonable timeframe.
