This is a remote position.
- Preparing work of a high quality in an efficient manner supporting the team in an exciting, growing Australian Bookkeeping firm including:
1) Transactional finance ownership
- End-to-end AP and AR management, including processing inbound invoicing, following up customer payables, collections, supplier payments, and reconciliations.
- Daily or near-daily bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Clean, consistent coding aligned to management reporting needs.
·Complete Payroll tasks
- Create Accounts review process, maintain a list of account customers, terms etc. Complete assessment for new accounts and create process.
2) Month-end close (controller-lite standard)
- Run a structured month-end close with a documented checklist.
- Deliver P&L, balance sheet, and basic cash flow as part of the month end.
- Maintain reconciliations for all key balance sheet accounts.
- Ensure payroll, GST, and inventory balances reconcile and call out any variances.
3) Compliance support
- Prepare GST/BAS tax schedules for accountant review.
- Maintain payroll compliance data (super, PAYG, leave liabilities).
- Coordinate clean handover to external accountants for year-end and tax.
4) Inventory, margin, and profitability insight
- Maintain accurate inventory valuation and adjustment processes.
- Produce reliable gross margin reporting by product, customer, or channel. Share product insights.
- Identify margin leakage, pricing issues, and cost allocation problems.
5) Cash and working capital management
- Prepare and maintain a rolling cash forecast and highlight upcoming risks early.
- Actively manage receivables and support credit control processes.
- Create payment run and plan payments with alignment to cash position and supplier terms.
6) Management reporting and insight
- Highlight key issues, trends, and recommended actions, not just numbers.
- Track basic KPIs relevant to sales, margin, and cash performance
Requirements
- Tertiary Accounting Qualifications – BS Accountancy
- With Xero Experience
- Highly proficient in Excel and Outlook
- 6 to 10+ years’ experience in AU bookkeeping, accounting operations, or assistant controller roles including an understanding of the Australian Accounting environment. CPA qualification is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Experience supporting owner-managed or growing SMEs, ideally with inventory, delivery, or project/job costing.
- Experience with ERP systems is highly desirable
- Video editing and Power BI skills are highly desirable
