The Opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Programme Manager based in South Africa
(Johannesburg preferred) on a 12-month fixed-term contract (FTC), with the possibility of extension, subject to business needs. This role will initially be responsible for leading the delivery of a large and complex programme for the region’s biggest telco, followed by other major projects and programmes as deals are won.
This is a high-profile position requiring exceptional programme leadership and stakeholder management; therefore, the successful candidate must be able to operate with a high degree of independence, accountability and confidence in navigating senior client stakeholders, as well as exceptional core programme management skills.
What will you do:
•Lead the end-to-end delivery of a large and complex programme, ensuring successful outcomes against agreed objectives, timelines and budgets
•Act as the primary point of contact for senior client stakeholders, building trusted
relationships and managing expectations across executive, operational and technical
levels
•Engage and manage relationships with internal teams and external partners, ensuring clear communication and alignment of expectations
•Operate autonomously in a regional context, coordinating with global Intent HQ delivery teams to ensure alignment and seamless execution
•Allocate and manage resources effectively, balancing project needs with available capacity, and ensuring optimal utilisation of team members
•Identify, assess, and mitigate programme risks, issues and dependencies across
multiple workstreams, implementing contingency plans as necessary to ensure project continuity and success
•Develop and manage project budgets, tracking expenditures and ensuring projects are delivered within financial constraints
•Ensure governance, reporting and decision-making processes are effective and
transparent for both client and Intent HQ stakeholders, providing insights into project progress and challenges
•Lead, mentor, and develop delivery teams, fostering a culture of continuous
improvement, collaboration, accountability, and high performance
•Support the growth of Intent HQ in the region through professional representation and client engagement.
What We’re Looking For:
•10+ years’ proven experience in programme and project management within large scale, complex technology or data-driven transformations
•Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with a track record of building trust with C- level and senior executives
•Highly self-motivated, resilient and able to operate independently with minimal oversight
•Demonstrable experience in multi-region delivery and working across distributed teams
•Deep understanding of programme governance, commercial management, and risk/issue management
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured approach to delivery and
strategic mindset
•Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, Project Management, or a related field
•Relevant programme management certifications (e.g. MSP, PMP, PRINCE2) are desirable
•Strong background in AI domain and the telecommunications sector is preferred
