Headway’s mission is a big one - to build a new mental health care system everyone can access. We’ve built technology that helps people find great therapists with the first software-enabled national network of providers accepting insurance.

1 in 4 people in the US have a treatable mental health condition, but the majority of providers don’t accept insurance, making therapy too expensive for most people. Headway is building a new mental healthcare system that everyone can access by making it easy for therapists to take insurance and scale their practice.

Headway was founded in 2019 – since then, we’ve grown into a diverse, national network of over 25,000 mental healthcare providers across all 50 states who run their practice on our software. We’re a Series C company with over $225m in funding from a16z (Andreessen Horowitz), Accel, GV (formerly Google Ventures), Spark Capital, Thrive Capital, and Health Care Service Corporation.

About The Role

As the Senior Associate of Clinical Engagement at Headway, your mission will be to further the development of our provider community. This pivotal role focuses on building, maintaining, and enhancing the support structures and sense of community within our network, while also ensuring clinicians have access to the resources and support they need to thrive. By fostering peer leadership, ensuring quality, enhancing communication, and encouraging a culture of curiosity and empathy, you will play a crucial role in Headway's mission to redefine mental healthcare access.

You'll be great for this role if:

  • You are a clinician: you have 3+ years of experience as a psychiatrist, LCSW, licensed therapist, or a PhD with experience both as a practicing provider as well as operating in a fast-paced, high-growth business. Bonus points if you have experience as a leader in a start-up environment.
  • You are a peer leader: you embody a "company-first" mentality, always ready to assist your peers and collaborate across functions. You're known for leading with resilience through challenges.
  • You are a quality guru: you have a track record of designing and implementing quality programs in the behavioral health space. Your knowledge of industry best practices is deep, and you're passionate about pushing those practices forward.
  • You are an exceptional communicator: your communication skills allow you to deeply understand therapists' needs and translate those insights into impactful implementation. You excel at building rapport and conveying complex ideas succinctly.
  • You are curious and empathetic: your genuine interest in therapists' experiences drives you to conduct thorough discovery and build strong, empathetic connections. You approach problem-solving with an open mind and a commitment to understanding others' perspectives.
  • You are an organizer: you possess innate organizational skills, with a keen eye for creating order and clarity. Your ability to categorize, file, and format information makes learning and operational processes smoother and more intuitive.

You will:

  • Collaborate on our community strategy with our Clinical Engagement Lead, working to implement and broaden the scope of our provider community initiatives. Your work will involve the strategic execution of programs designed to create a leading Headway provider community, providing platforms for clinicians across various disciplines to engage in enriching clinical case consultations, share referrals, network, and access vital supports.
  • Expand clinical case consultation by focusing on enhancing our clinical case consultation model under the guidance of the Clinical Engagement Lead. You'll work to broaden the framework for case discussions, incorporating a wider range of clinical experiences and specialties to ensure comprehensive support and engagement within our network. You will do so through overseeing the work of contracted clinical champions.
  • Drive evidence-based practice by regularly conducting in-depth literature searches to keep our community at the forefront of the latest treatment recommendations and evidence-based practices. Your efforts in compiling and disseminating this critical information will ensure our clinicians are well-informed and equipped to deliver the highest standard of care.
  • Develop provider forums by taking the lead in advancing our clinical forums that encourage meaningful provider-to-provider interactions. Following the initial strategy set by the Clinical Engagement Lead, these forums will serve as vital platforms for clinicians to exchange insights, overcome challenges, and bolster a supportive and collaborative clinical environment.
  • Foster social connections by spearheading initiatives aimed at strengthening the social fabric of our provider community. Whether through organizing events, creating interest-based groups, or developing bespoke programs, your role will be crucial in cultivating a sense of belonging and camaraderie among clinicians.

Through these actions, you will play a central role in elevating the quality of care across the Headway network and nurturing a vibrant, supportive ecosystem for healthcare professionals. Your dedication to implementing and expanding these critical initiatives underscores our shared commitment to improving patient outcomes and enhancing clinician experiences.

We're building a new mental healthcare system. Tens of millions of Americans seek mental health care every day, but the vast majority never get the care they need. Headway is solving this, and we’re doing it all through software.

One in four Americans have a treatable mental health condition, but most don’t get care. The number one reason is price.

70% of therapists don’t accept insurance because of the administrative burden. This means individuals have to pay out of pocket prices they can’t afford.

How we're fixing it

Headway is building the first asset-free national network of therapists who accept insurance. This helps therapists build their practices while helping individuals find great care they can afford.

Our core values bring Headway’s mission to life

  • Think future first: We think big, even when the task feels small. We seek opportunities to reimagine, and take time to build for the future.

  • Act like a Headway owner: We all pitch in with ideas to improve the products we build and the ways we operate, even when they’re outside of our roles. We collaborate to make Headway as a whole the best it can be.

  • The first time is always handmade: We believe that building amazing products means starting by doing things that don’t scale. We roll up our sleeves, get creative, and engage deeply with the people we are building for.

  • Be relationship-obsessed: We care deeply about our relationships with those who make Headway what it is: our providers, patients, payers, and each other.

  • Invest in yourself to invest in our mission: We take the time to invest in our own health and wellness, and support each other in doing so. It’s how we bring our best selves to work, and it’s essential to our mission.

We are dedicated to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive company

People are their happiest, healthiest, and best selves when they know their team values them for who they are. At Headway, we strive to build a team with a diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences not just because it is a business imperative, but because it is the right thing to do.
