Job Summary
Assumes overall responsibility for a content area in the curriculum, including learning objectives, references, learning modalities, and evaluation methods.
Duties and Responsibilities
University Related
Promotes the mission and philosophy of FNU.
Attends curriculum, academic, department/program faculty meetings.
Participates in the annual Fall Faculty Meeting and Commencement as stipulated in their current FNU contract.
Participates in Frontier Bound and Clinical Bound, if applicable, as stipulated in their current FNU contract
Provide service to the University through activities such as involvement in FNU shared governance (e.g., committees, workgroups), FNU-sponsored activities (e.g., charity drives, community outreach activities), and/or service to the profession (e.g., presentations, professional organization committee work).
Adhere to the elements of the Culture of Caring
Other duties as assigned.
Course Related
Ensures that course content is current and addresses appropriate specialty and related core competencies.
Provides teaching and social and cognitive presence in the course.
Designs and/or updates courses on a periodic and timely basis.
Design appropriate teaching strategies in the course to promote student learning.
Maintains currency in areas of expertise through clinical practice, literature review, and participation in continuing education programs, etc.
Responsible for meeting timelines for the production of course revisions, teaching plans, and other related requirements.
Analyzes course evaluation data and completes the Course Quality Improvement form every term.
Participates in the exam item review process, as applicable.
Delegates appropriate course responsibilities to Course Faculty with attention to the faculty member’s experience and expertise.
Works with the Department Chair or Program Director in the orientation of Course Faculty.
Maintains communication with PD/DC and appropriate student advisor about student performance, progress, and/or other course-related issues.
Maintains course grade book and student records; assigns grades within the timeline requirements for grade submission.
Responsible for accurately tracking and reporting student progress in didactic courses to the FNU Registrar and Administrative Team.
Student Related
Orients students to course expectations.
Meets timelines related to course revision work: course analytics, course evaluations, student feedback (e.g., grading and meeting turnaround deadlines), and other related timelines as required.
Enables students to have feedback (including return of written work) per university policy except in unusual circumstances.
Maintains accessibility to students enrolled in the course through email, forums, phone calls, and other means of communication as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
Notifies the Academic Advisor if a student has academic or personal difficulties affecting academic progress.
Service
Participates in faculty course teams
Participates in standing and/or ad hoc committees of FNU.
Participates in professional organizations; acts as a representative of FNU in furthering nurse-midwifery and/or nurse practitioner education and/or practice.
Participates in the mentorship of other faculty members.
Provides service to the home community.
Scholarship
Participates in scholarly work through publication, grant writing, presentations, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project participation, scholarly consultation, and/or other scholarly endeavors.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Skilled in communication, problem-solving, computer literacy, management, and organization preferred.
Expert in subject matter for the assigned course
Education and Experience:
Certification by the appropriate national professional board.
Doctorate in Nursing or related area required.
Experience in nurse-midwifery or nurse practitioner education.
Physical Requirements:
Able to sit or stand for long periods of time
Able to travel to campus for required activities (2-3 times per year)
Reporting Relationship
The Course Coordinator reports to the appropriate Department Chair, Program Director, or Clinical Director as assigned.
