What You’ll Be Doing:
The Sr. Director of Software Engineering will provide strategic leadership and technical direction for Evolent’s software engineering organization during a critical multi-year transformation. This role will oversee modernization efforts, unify legacy platforms, and drive the adoption of scalable, efficient solutions. The Sr. Director will partner closely with stakeholders across Engineering, Product, and our business teams to deliver innovative solutions that exceed expectations. As a leader in the engineering organization, the Sr. Director will foster a culture of quality, customer obsession, product mindset, and technical excellence.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Build and Mature Engineering Culture: Develop a high-performing team that embraces continuous learning, innovation, domain expertise, quality, and accountability.
- Partner Across Teams: Collaborate with leadership, product management, and stakeholders to define technical vision and ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Lead Strategic Transformation: Drive modernization of platforms and processes, reducing onboarding complexity and infrastructure management while aligning with long-term technology roadmaps.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a trusted partner by understanding business needs deeply and influencing progress through technical expertise.
- Mentor and Grow Leaders: Coach engineering managers and technical staff, fostering leadership and technical depth.
- Advance Technical Excellence: Oversee design, development, and deployment of scalable, high-quality software solutions. Enforce best practices in architecture, development, and quality.
- Performance Management: Establish clear goals, metrics, and accountability for team performance and delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- High technical acumen. Ability to influence technical strategy beyond immediate team scope.
- Experience: 12+ years in software engineering, with at least 7+ years in leadership roles managing large, distributed teams.
- Leadership: Ability to lead through change, build a product mindset, and foster a culture of innovation and accountability.
- Proven track record of delivering complex, enterprise-scale software projects on time and within budget.
- Technical Expertise: Python, Spark, API development, Data Warehousing concepts, ETL patterns, SQL
- Deep understanding of cloud services and DevOps practices.
- Healthcare Domain Knowledge: Experience with healthcare data, especially medical claims, is strongly preferred.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to engage stakeholders, influence decisions, and articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
- Strong background in software engineering, architecture, and system integration is preferred.

Technical Requirements:
We require that all employees have the following technical capability at their home: High speed internet over 10 Mbps and, specifically for all call center employees, the ability to plug in directly to the home internet router. These at-home technical requirements are subject to change with any scheduled re-opening of our office locations.

The expected base salary/wage range for this position is $160,000 - 190,000. This position is also eligible for a bonus component that would be dependent on pre-defined performance factors. As part of our total compensation package, Evolent is proud to offer comprehensive benefits (including health insurance benefits) to qualifying employees. All compensation determinations are based on the skills and experience required for the position and commensurate with experience of selected individuals, which may vary above and below the stated amounts.
