The company traces its roots to the Evening Post, a Charleston newspaper founded in 1894, and later became the publisher of The Post and Courier. As newspapers and local news coverage faced significant disruption across the state, the organization expanded its reporting footprint while preserving a commitment to meaningful, accurate and impartial journalism. Today, Evening Post Publishing operates as a privately held, family-owned media company headquartered in Charleston. Its portfolio includes The Post and Courier and numerous community publications serving Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, Beaufort County, Myrtle Beach, Spartanburg, Aiken, Summerville and other South Carolina markets. The company also operates Evening Post Books, a boutique publishing division founded in 2008 to provide a rigorous literary home for Southern writers.
