Position Summary
Support Tax Managers, Sr. Tax Managers, and Directors in providing fuel tax advisory/consulting services. Conduct fuel & excise tax return preparations, registrations and licensing, overpayment reviews, jurisdictional audits, reverse audits, transaction analyses, and file refund claims for DMA clients. Perform Federal and Provincial/State research and work with relevant taxing authorities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Research and provide advisory/consulting guidance for current Federal and State/Provincial fuel & excise tax legislation and regulations
Knowledge of and preparation of fuel & excise tax returns (Canada and USA)
Collaborate with DMA teams to ensure proper tax treatment of client’s activities to ensure compliance with fuel & excise tax laws to ensure timely and accurate fuel & excise tax compliance
Assisting in resolving fuel & excise tax issues for DMA clients
Provide ad hoc support for fuel & excise tax audits by providing information and analysis to address audit queries pertaining to reporting issues and potential assessments and related analysis and investigation
Negotiate with Federal/Provincial/State auditors during refund processing, audit appeals, etc.
Support other fuel & excise tax compliance projects and work with DMA clients on other time sensitive projects or new requests or developments
Prepare updates and reports of findings for DMA clients
Prepare required administrative information for Director, including status updates, entering job cost hours, forecasting, etc.
Travel to client locations as required
Identify and collect data on prospective clients and analyze potential client opportunities
Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field required.
3-5 years of experience in U.S. and Canadian fuel and excise tax compliance or related field.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office; advanced Excel skills preferred.
Experience with tax engines (Vertex, ONESOURCE) and ERP systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and client service skills.
Valid Drivers License
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work Schedule: Regular, 40 hours/week
Travel: 10-25%
