Distinguished is a leading national insurance Program Manager providing specialized insurance programs to brokers and agents with specific expertise in Real Estate, Community Associations, Hospitality, Fine Art/Collectibles, Restaurants, Surety, Transactional Risk and Environmental/Construction Professional. Distinguished partners with a select group of highly rated insurance companies to provide exclusive programs to our national network of 4,000 agencies and brokerages. The Applications Development Manager will lead the design, development, and maintenance of technology solutions that support the operations of a Managing General Agent (MGA). This role is responsible for overseeing application development teams, managing vendors, integrations, and ensuring that platforms such as policy administration, rating engines, CRM, and underwriting tools are optimized for performance, scalability, and compliance.


RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leadership & Strategy
    • Manage, mentor & lead a team of engineers and technical application leads in building and maintaining MGA-specific applications.
    • Collaborate with business stakeholders to align technology solutions with underwriting, distribution, and operational goals.
    • Create, socialize and execute the application portfolio strategy
    • Drive agile development practices and continuous improvement across the application lifecycle.
  • Application Development & Integration
    • Oversee development and enhancement of core MGA systems including policy administration, Underwriting, Billing, Claims, External facing portal, CRM and document management.
    • Manage integrations with third-party data source, and systems.
    • Manage a remote team of engineers supporting various applications.
  • Vendor & Ecosystem Management
    • Coordinate with external vendors and partners to implement and maintain solutions.
    • Evaluate new technologies and platforms for potential adoption within the MGA ecosystem.
  • Governance & Compliance
    • Ensure applications meet regulatory, security, and data privacy requirements.
    • Maintain documentation and enforce coding standards and best practices.
    • Manage the SDLC process for all applications, including auditing and conforming to compliance.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10-15 + years of experience in application development, technical lead and solution architecture roles, with at least 10 years in a leadership role.
  • 7+ years of experience in P&C – commercial insurance.
  • Strong understanding of MGA operations and insurance technology platforms.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred), APIs, and microservices architecture.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Unqork, Vertafore MGA Systems, Image Right, Coherent Spark, Azure Integrations Services and Workday.
  • Excellent communication, management, and stakeholder engagement skills.

BONUS POINTS
  • Strong Knowledge of commercial insurance (MGA) business including Admitted, E&S, understanding of Reinsurance and Llyod’s market.
  • Experience working as an Enterprise Architect or Business Architect.
  • Familiarity with AI tools supporting Insurance processes.

LOCATION
  • This is a remote position.

COMPENSATION & PERKS
  • $180,000 - $225,000 base salary plus bonus. Salary commensurate with knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location.
