The main purpose of this role is to take end-to-end ownership of functional solution architecture within the BM RANi (Best Mobile RAN Infrastructure) domain and to translate business vision and requirements into sustainable, scalable, and future-proof architectural solutions.

This is not a programming or hands-on development role. It is a functional and strategic architecture role operating at the intersection of business and IT.

As a Lead Solution Architect, you act in the role of HUB Architect. You receive business requirements from the business side and ensure their deep understanding – not only what needs to be delivered, but why it needs to be delivered and what business outcome is expected.

In iterative steps, you transform these requirements into a coherent functional architecture that goes beyond the boundaries of the HUB itself. You consider cross-domain dependencies, integrations with internal and external partners, and collaboration with other mobile operators (OMC). You ensure that solutions fit into the broader enterprise and telco ecosystem.

You define architectural direction, set guardrails, and ensure that every solution aligns with strategic architectural principles and long-term vision.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

for planning, building, deploying, and optimizing the IT landscape that supports the mobile access network of Deutsche Telekom.

The domain covers IT systems and solutions for:

  • Network planning and rollout (including 5G, Small Cells, and expansion of network structures)
  • Inventory, configuration, and optimization of the RAN
  • Integration with assurance, workforce control, and related support systems
  • Collaboration with internal and external partners as well as other mobile operators

The business focus of BM RANi is to ensure high network coverage, high quality, capacity, and innovation — enabling Deutsche Telekom to maintain and further strengthen its “Best Network” position.

Automation, scalability, and architectural modernization are key enablers in handling the growing complexity and explosion in the number of network elements.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

As a Lead Solution Architect, you will:

  • Take ownership of end-to-end functional solution architecture within the HUB
  • Translate business requirements into clear architectural concepts and functional designs
  • Act as a trusted advisor for business stakeholders and explain architectural principles and solutions in business language
  • Define and communicate architectural strategy and direction for the HUB
  • Establish and maintain architectural guardrails and design principles
  • Document and formalize key decisions through Architecture Decision Records (ADR)
  • Ensure that solutions remain within defined architectural boundaries and align with enterprise standards
  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to refine and clarify requirements
  • Work hand-in-hand with process designers, solution designers, cluster architects, and implementation teams
  • Facilitate alignment across domains and ensure that cross-domain impacts are understood and addressed
  • Drive architectural consistency, sustainability, and long-term value creation
  • A key aspect of this role is the ability to make decisions, stand by them, and guide the HUB towards clearly defined architectural goals.

YOU WILL SUCCEED IF YOU HAVE:

  • Strong experience in Solution Architecture or Domain Architecture within complex IT or telco environments
  • Proven ability to connect business capabilities and strategy with functional IT architecture
  • Solid understanding of OSS/BSS environments, RAN domain, orchestration, or system integration (advantage)
  • Experience with modular architectures, API-based integration, and modern architectural paradigms (from a conceptual and governance perspective)
  • Experience in transformation initiatives (modernization, decoupling, platform evolution)
  • Experience working in agile environments (Scrum, SAFe) within large organizations
  • Strong stakeholder management and facilitation skills
  • Ability to communicate complex architectural concepts in a clear and structured way to non-technical audiences
  • Confidence in making architectural decisions and taking ownership of them
  • Business fluent English; German is a significant advantage

What makes this role different

  • Strong business and strategic impact – you shape how business vision becomes architectural reality
  • Architectural leadership instead of hands-on development
  • High exposure to business stakeholders and cross-domain collaboration
  • Ownership of guardrails, architectural principles, and decision governance (ADR)
  • Influence on long-term architectural direction within a highly complex telco ecosystem
  • Opportunity to lead and guide a HUB towards modern, scalable, and future-ready architecture

Deutsche Telekom AG's journey began in 1995, born from the privatization of Germany's state-owned telecommunications monopoly, Deutsche Bundespost. This monumental shift marked Germany's entry into a liberalized telecommunications market. In its early years, the company focused on modernizing the existing infrastructure and expanding its service offerings beyond traditional fixed-line telephony. The 1990s were a period of rapid technological advancement and increasing competition, particularly with the rise of mobile communications and the internet. Deutsche Telekom navigated this dynamic landscape, making strategic moves to establish itself as a major player. A significant early step was its public listing in 1996, with shares traded on both the Frankfurt and New York stock exchanges, signaling its global ambitions.

The new millennium saw Deutsche Telekom embark on a path of international expansion and diversification. A key milestone was the acquisition of VoiceStream Wireless in the United States in 2000, which eventually became the cornerstone of T-Mobile US, a major force in the American wireless market. This move, though bold and initially challenging, proved to be a critical driver of future growth. Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Deutsche Telekom continued to invest heavily in new technologies, including broadband internet, IPTV, and the expansion of its mobile networks, including 3G, 4G, and now 5G. The company also consolidated its brand, with T-Mobile becoming its prominent international mobile communications arm. Under the leadership of CEOs like Ron Sommer, Kai-Uwe Ricke, René Obermann, and currently Timotheus Höttges (since 2014), Deutsche Telekom has transformed from a traditional telephone company into an integrated telecommunications giant, offering a wide array of digital services, cloud solutions, and ICT for business customers. Today, Deutsche Telekom stands as one of the world's leading telecommunications providers, with a significant presence in Europe and North America, constantly evolving to meet the demands of an increasingly connected and digital world.
