The family possessed a rich history in the restaurant business, with George and Ruth previously owning supper clubs and an A&W root beer stand. Craig, inspired by his mother's homemade hamburgers and his favorite childhood vacation treat of frozen custard, sought to combine these two loves into a single dining experience. They named their signature creation the 'ButterBurger,' a nod to the way Craig's mother would lightly butter the crown of the bun before toasting it.

What began as a single family-owned restaurant has since grown into a nationwide favorite, with over 1,000 locations across the United States. Despite this rapid expansion, Culver's has remained true to its small-town Wisconsin roots.
